OK so I said no more mods for now but I had to take the door panels off to look into recovering them in dream red leather and what a surprise - no speakers in the door panels, just factory banking plates. Amazing on the then, top of the range 3.01SE, with Sat Nav and the better stereo/radio set up to skimp of a pair of £20 speakers. Guess they force you to upgrade that too on the options list.
Now I'm no ICE fanatic but looks like they beg to have speakers dropped in and simply track leads back through to the dash area
What sort are best to slot in?
Can I just link them to the the front speakers or have I got to get all silly and fit amps or other gadgets?

Incedentally what compelled BMW to bond the leather insert into the door panel frame and then plastic weld all the individual pieces of fram, cappings, pockets, etc. together such that the door panel is one complete unservicable item....
