Do you have the CD changer?
Every once in a while I have to pull the CD cartridge out & back in.
Seems like it looses connection.

Ok cheers guys, much appreciated.. all bar 'Turn the stereo to "on" ?' Very good.

As if by magic late last night it decided to provide me with sound, very odd? Still, think a trip to the dealers is on the cards anyway.. not quite right methinks!

Sounds very much like a dodgy connection,, problem with that is, it always rectify,s itself when you take it to the stealers :headbang:

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago in my coupe. I was driving home and all of the sudden there was a deafening silence from the stereo. No sound from the radio, nav, etc for the remainder of the 40 minute drive. Everything seemed to be working fine, just no sound. When I got home, I moaned and groaned about it to the wife for a few minutes and then went out and turned on the ignition. To my surprise, the audio was working again. I had done nothing to it.

I'll keep a watch on it and will have the dealer check the connections next time I'm in for scheduled maintenance.

Have all of the connections, plugs and fuses checked & confirm that all are secure and in-place....Good luck and hope that problem is not major....

While hopefully not your case, I had a similar issue with my M Coupe. The audio would just cut off and required restarting the vehicle for it to work again. Even when working, however, I always thought the audio sounded horrible. I assumed they were just handing out THX certified approvals to anyone and figured I would just deal with it.

This issue started the day after purchasing the vehicle. All operations on the nav appeared normal, almost as if there was some type of mute button just for sound.

Long story short, after starting the car after normal operation about a week later assuming the problem would be addressed at my 1200 mile service, the radio was almost deafening. I almost always turn the volume down before I shut the car down just out of habit. When this happened the speakers were beyond full blast and were echoing interior noises (as if coming from the mic) and completely distorted, incredibly loud noise from the selected source. Adjustment of volume was almost not possible and the only option was powering the system off- aside from wearing ear plugs.

I ended up having a bad amp from the factory and it was replaced within 2 weeks of having the new car.

Since then, I have been incredibly impressed with what now does sound like a THX certified system.

Let us know how it turns out and hopefully they won't need your car for half a week, like mine, to get the parts in and replace the system.
