Just bought a Z4 project car please refer here to background: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=70948

There is no sound coming from the radio , CD changer, Sat Nav or anything the Sat Nav operates fine and the radio tunes too but there is no sound output. Also there multi changer magazine is stuck and does not eject.

I have checked and found that the fuse for the multi changer is missing no.48 I think, and also that the where the amp is supposed to be next to the battery there is nothing there, I'm not sure if the amp is required for sound function or if it was supplied with the car and removed or simply not supplied/required. I'm sure someone with know this. In regards to the fuse I can only assume that someone has tried and failed to diagnose the fault in the past and perhaps taken the amp out as a result and the fuse out because it was short circuiting something else or causing other issues e.g a flat bat?

Or could it just be a simple case of replacing the fuse and everything works? Surely not gonna be that easy?

I welcome all of your help to get this working, thanks everyone!

There would be a connector plug next to the battery for the amp. Does your car have subs behind the seats? If it does you will have had an amp at some point and will not get any sound without one!

Look in the boot where the battery is located, as stated before it could be a connection issue or if your really unlucky you'll find that it is full of water and the amp/dsp is fecked.

Yes there is a connector in the area next to battery but no sign of an amp! The area is dry but I believe it has suffered from water ingress in past and perhaps the previous owner has had the amp removed as a result?

Looks as if that was the issue and previous owner removed the amp, find out what system you car had from the factory and try and find an amp. If it's the DSP system a new amp from BMW will cost you about £1000'all in! Second hand they vary from £250-£500 but may need to be coded and you will need the correct amp.

The other option is aftermarket, there is a few how twos on the forum I beleive.

Hope this helps

Just got back after 2 weeks in the sun to found a dead car. Checked the battery and found it was sat in 6" of water. After draining & recharging all seems OK but the amp seems to be fecked. :(

Is water ingress into the boot area a known problem I've not experienced it before?
The only thing I can think is that I left the car outside with a half cover on which has an elastic strap that sits under the boot lid and with strong winds this has lifted the seal on let the water in.

Thanks Ash, How would I be able to find out which amp my car had fitted from the factory?

Do you have DSP settings on the sat nav screen? Like an equaliser?

Ash

No, there is no DSP settings on screen. The only items that appear on the menu screen are Sat Nav and Computer.
