No RFT's, what do you use?

Ah good thread.

Too many options though :D

Happy to spend £50-£60 on the right parts, but can't decide which are the best ones (may as well maximise my ability to fix a puncture in the worst case :) )

Does that BMW motability kit have a compressed air tin/can with it, or do the cars that are given this ALSO have a good compressor with them? They seem a good option for just £25, but if I need a compressor too then I'll have to source a good one too.

Any feedback on the best to get from personal experience is probably what I'm after now :)

Dave

The mobility kit is an all in one moulded holder containing a compressor, can of sealant and airline with gauge. It can be used as a compressor or linked via the can to push goo and air into the tyre in one go. Neat unit Vs separates, however more bulky to store than separate items
Looks very nice installed in the little tray made for it, but as I just found out recently, it makes a huge mess upon disconnect,,,,, upon yourself, car, and compressor. It does work well, once you realize that the cannister of "Goo" needs to be pressurized by the compressor to actually do anything. The mess may be my fault since I realized this after a few seconds of trying to reinflate my tire with cars passing less than 5ft away, doing 80mph. I am too used to the cans that you just affix and let go, then inflate to running pressure.

Yeah, nothing can be fun next to a road with 80mph traffic on it... :(

I guess you make sure you release pressure from the parts that make the discharge go away from you... I assume the instructions on them make sense :)

Either way, good that they work when used. That is the main thing for me. Happy to spend a little more to get a system that BMW have checked time and again on this model (ie, 255/35R18 ++) during approval for the system, and then in practice by owners

Thanks

Dave

My compressor arrived today, just as I fitted my Non Run Flat Falkens.

It's a Ring/RAC 600 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270336265680) and I ordered it mainly as it would fit in the gap by the battery, which it does with a little squeeze.

That looks very neat and tidy.

I got one of the pump/gunk kits for a BMW MINI... £25 delivered and looks identical to the BMW M ones, apart from less fancy packaging/cladding to the pump itself.

I also got an RAC/Ring 500 pump as recommended by A11y, which might be a better fit with some Holts Tyre weld tins, will just see which works best, and I can always give away the RAC500 one as a present or whatever if it's no good, or re-ebay the MINI one if it proves too bulky to fit anywhere nice.

I ordered two cans of Holts Tyre Weld 400ml each, guess where I store them

I havent looked to see if they will fit under the floor in the boot but this is the next best place, and I have two of these Oil pouches doing noting else so might as well use one for this.

I got one 500ml one and it's just laid flat in behind the battery... I could fit three of them in there easily.

I will however not do that, and have my BMW MINI Mobility kit (same as BMW M one from what I can tell, just half as much) to go in there instead (along with a backup Holts Tyre Weld)...

Can anybody confirm the mini one is the same, as Mr Whippy said they seem half the price and there are a few more on ebay

Mine is at the sorting office, it wouldn't fit in my letter box :P

When I get it I'll be sure to post lots of pics and then people can help determine what is what. I'll also let a tyre down and see how long it takes to refill as a guide on flow.

All that said, considering the front tyres of a MINI Cooper S running 17's is easily as loaded (weight) and volumed as an 18" MZ4 wheel, I guess it must be good enough...

Will be ideal to confirm though.

Well, maybe I was naive, but I thought this meant BMW MINI sealant AND pump.

Upon collecting the package it's clearly the BMW MINI sealant and some really shitty old ropey pump, in a random canvas bag.

Not sure if it was described incorrectly, but it read like, and was displayed like it was all BMW kit.

Caveat emptor I suppose. I didn't see it's description had changed since I watched it days earlier and then after the BMW M ones went for £75 decided to go for this... seems description went from used, to nothing at all :P (I guess it could not work at all and meet the sellers description)

Not sure what to do now as the seller appears to be fairly 'normal' but the parcel had "UK Automotive Ltd" on it, suggesting that this was someones old shitty pump from a breaker (they are breakers)...

Hmmm

Dave

Happy to call it a total loss really, the sealant is worth £7 ish, and by the time I've recorded 1st class the lot back I'll be down £5 more, and for a refund of £17.50 for the actual product I'll only have £12.50 ish anyway + the hassle etc...

Will dispute it however, as I'd never have bought it at all if it'd been clear it was actually just BMW sealant and a random crappy worn battered pump. Have asked the seller for a partial reduction to reflect this, as I can get a new rac500 pump and new BMW sealant off ebay for less!

Will probably just stick with my Holts as a first strike system, the BMW sealant + my rac500 compressor as a backup.

So far, I don't recommend the BMW MINI system, unless you know exactly what one looks like :D ;)

Dave

Not good at all and rather cleverly worded by the seller to pretend not to know what he was selling.

Threaten negative feedback to damage his 100% unless he partially refunds, (sellers cannot give reciprocal feedback)
