No radio reception

Hi

Just become a proud owner of an E85M
It had an after-market stereo fitted but the original was in the boot. So took the after-market out and put back the original. Note the aftermarket had a dab aerial fitted. It would only pick up DAB stations no am/fm. Oddly when the original went in there is still no AM/FM signal.

I have tried running a new aerial cable from the aerial amp to the stereo with zero difference. I think the aerial amps aren't getting any power. Does anyone know where the power comes from?

Can't help I'm afraid. But I did read something the other day on the Forum about the stubby / whippy aerial being for AM wavebands and that the FM waveband was fed by an aerial somewhere along the rear bumper. I know it probably won't help your situation very much but it was something that was new to me.

Been faffing around with the aerial on my Z3 and the head unit, whilst doing so found out that at the aerial end if the earth wire is not connected to the body the radio head wont switch on. Not explored my Z4's aerial but would suspect its a similar set up to the Z3.

I think the amp earths to the body through the screw that holds the aerial on?

Ok, ended up putting an aftermarket aerial on. There is some pretty good directions how to tread the wires through on here. It is worth the hassle
