went to start the z4 today and the battery was flat so i put on my booster which had been charged up in ancticipation of this. now when i try and start it, only the dash abs light comes on and goes off after a couple of seconds but the car just clicks when i turn the key. none of the dash display i.e mileage etc is displayed, its just blank. the stereo powers up and has display. the remote central locking and remote boot release works fine.

any ideas on what might be causing this?

The booster is not powerful enough, I can tell you that.

On my previous Z, I had a flat battery after leaving it for a bit, my booster would not hack it whilst it was fine for my 1.8 litre golf and lawnmowers.

it could be that but i've never had an issue with it before. cranks up my 2.2 astra no probs and my 2.2 prelude before that.

anyhow, if it was this, it doesnt explain why none of the dash lights and mileage are not showing up....... i'm parked on a hill, should i roll it down and jump start it? dont want to risk being at the bottom of the hill and no where to go

I would agree on battery not having enough power.

Cant you jump start it from the top of the hill?

i havent tried jump starting it just yet. i'll give it a go now and see how it goes now :?

ok all sorted. got my brother to push it a bit as the brakes were frozen. got it rolling down the hill and it burst into life. took it for a drive and its all fine, no warning lights...... although i do have an annoying rattle coming from the roof somewhere and the readout giving me the next service interval has disappeared :headbang:

seems like these batteries need a good kick up the backside to get them to fire up the car :D
