No Claims Discount - two cars

I have had a company car for 14yrs, my 911 was on a classic car policy so didn't need NCD, my wife has her own policy with me as a named driver, I have amassed NCD via work and get a letter from their insurers, when I initially came to insure the Z they said that I couldn't use the NCD because it was being used on my company car so would have to start from scratch :headbang:

Oh no! Typical!
I must say Direct Line just gave me a good quote for both, I would've gone with them if Sainsbury's hadn't just rung back and done the right thing!

Bloody hell, great quote from Direct Line. Mine was pants in comparison

Glad you got it sorted though

Thanks guys.

Just rang Direct Line and got quoted £519 for both (two free months on offer at the moment) thats with breakdown and legal.

They are giving me the 9 yrs on the zed and 5 years on the Freelander. Also if say I sell the Freelander they will give me a NCD letter for that to stand alone too.

Just going to wait til Sainsburys ring back and see if they are going to honour what they said otherwise I am going to cancel. They charge £25 to cancel but ......... hold the bus.....they just called and she listened to the phone all and she agreed that they did tell me it would be on both cars so her powers that be have said they will honour 9 yrs NCB on both cars. result for the common man (or woman) for a change!

Put a big enough gun to their heads, and they'll blink

Just as an aside on this, we had to make a claim last year on one of our cars - each has NCD protected, differing years as two are my wifes, one mine. One of my wfifes cars had a claim last year (deer strike). This year someone hit my car in the car park (still ongoing trying to get it resolved) - on talking options through with Admiral, it appears that last year's claim counts as a strike against all policies!

I hate insurance companies, scally B**tards, I read in Classic and Sportscar last year that the insurance industry as a whole hadn't made the money it expected to and as a result premiums would go up to make up the difference, try that at work tomorrow :headbang:

Admiral multicar policy with two cars (///MC and 320d) each having full protected NCD of >10 years. Importantly, it's just me on both policies though.

Exactly - sole driver, can't drive both at once... More than one driver on each car and in most cases what happened to Mark will happen to you if you have a claim, unless you're very lucky with your insurer. So you get a bargain policy, but it's really only half a policy

But I could drive one into the other, writing off both of them

True. But then you'd deserve to lose the right to drive anything

Exactly the same as me.

I'm lucky enough to have genuinely built up 2 separate NCBs so have no major issues and can shop around for both the bus (Passat) and fun car (Zed). However, I see Aviva (formerly Norwich Union) are now offering a multi car policy...I'm considering adding a third to the 'stable' (most likely a classic of some sort - either original Beetle or maybe a Midget or Spitfire - or possibly even a camper van). Be interesting to see if multi-car on 3 works out better than 2 separate 'regular' policies plus a classic policy.

As an aside, any know of a multi car policy that also covers motorcycles (if you'll excuse the oxymoron)? My parents have 4 cars and 3 motorcycles between them and are forever paying admin fees to switch policies between their 'wheels'!

True...Admiral do state that in the T&Cs. I think they enforce it through a strict policy of savage maiming :D

When I put my son on our Ford Ka policy ,a couple of years back. I transferred my 11 years No claims to that car, to bring the cost down to a healthy £800. That meant I had to take out a brand new policy, with no NCB, for the Z4MR. But at £500 that was still much cheaper than the Ka. You gota love insurance algorithms. :x
