I was planning a trip to Scotland after lockdown, now I either get bitten to death or look like Ronnie Kray as I drive, maybe stay in Cymru :D

You’ll fit in perfectly and you’ll be made to feel welcome, especially by the midges

Not exactly selling it to me there, will defo be doing a trip up late summer early autumn this year, want to do Loch Lomond / Loch Ness and just drive around and enjoy the scenery

Midges can bite the other half she will taste better

So heading in my general direction to start with, absolutely fantastic trip in the Zed. We sometimes come back down towards Loch Lomond when going to Inverness so we can drive through Glen Coe with the roof down, only adds about another hour on for me.

There’s something like it’s only the female midge that bites so they look after their own so we’re screwed and your plan’s out the window

I couldn't understand why everybody keeps banging on about heated seats being a necessity (I still have to check I haven't p*ssed myself when they're on  ). I've worked it out! Most of you lot live in Scotland or up a mountain in Wales, so you need them, even in the Summer. Not so important in sunny, warm tropical England. :D :D :P

Absolutely spot on, out in -1 in mine recently, heated seats on and roof down. Your tropical temperature just now is artificially high with the increased temperature from everyone with COVID :poke:

The more worrying part about your post is you need to check you’ve not p*ssed yourself   oh, and that’ll be because you’ve got the heated seats that you don’t need switched on  :poke:

That was my plan, I have a hotel voucher for two nights and saw a couple up by you, will see what your recommend before I book, I will not be in a hurry so will map out some things to see before I plan the route / hotels.

Wanted to do Loch Ness last year but lockdown stopped that

s**t have to cover myself in marmite to put them off :D

Here is an alternative https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-2-5-23i- ... SwcSlgHoCj
Best thing is they're advertising finance from ONLY 7.9% APR. That's approx 5.5%, which is ONLY 55 times the BOE base rate. BARGAIN!

No problem, give me a shout when you’re ready and if you know what route you want to take. My immediate reaction is if going via my direction then The George in Inveraray, fantastic food and great location atmosphere and The Kingsmill in Inverness or Tulloch Castle in Dingwall have a wee look at those and see what you think

The marmite option is a 50/50 gamble

Will have to check as its a buy a gift voucher so limited options in Scotland but defo a few in Argyll area

Maybe try that on her first then, least I won't smell all day :D

Have you been out in your car with the roof down for any length of time yet?
Once you have you might understand the need for heated seats. :)

Took a 35i out a few weeks ago for a test drive without heated seats...top up great, top down ok ish with heater full on...took a 28 out with heated seats a few days later, similar conditions, roof down with heated seats bliss...could drive for hours like that...just need the right cap for my ears.. :driving:

Like many things don’t knock it till you’ve tried it..

In SoCal maybe a different story.. :tumbleweed:

Other than a warm bum in one, how did the 2 cars compare

Took me 4 month's to find my car. Colour and spec. Purchased unseen, as had to go from Kent to Yorksire to collect.
Got all the toys except the idrive, would never use it, use those sign post things on the side of the road.

Staying on topic, record is -5 C with roof down. Heated seats and steering wheel. (Lord know's what the wind chill would have been)

:)

Hello nitrix

I chatted elswehere about my experiences but a clip from that at the time said:

Of the test drives for various reasons the 18 manual showed the way forward.

The re-map was impressive, the ride and handling related aspects of the non factory 18 inch wheels with Goodyear tyres was much better than the standard tyres on the dealer cars on their 18 and 19 inch wheels.

What was missing was the 8 speed auto box which the dealer 20 and 28 had which was much better matched to the car than the manual.
In reality they were all very similar as you would expect in terms of long nose, low rear seating position, interior trim etc.

All the 18,20,28 had better feel on the front end and felt better poised than the 30 and 35 trying to take tyres and wheels into consideration.
The 18 and 28 left the 30 auto way behind in terms of real world driving, the 28 auto was never short of the right gear at the right time.

The 35 was the undisputed traffic light grand prix winner but the 18 actually went faster around bendy roads and never felt that it was slower than the 35 especially on the cold and greasy roads. Suprised that the 35 doesn't have a limited slip diff as it kept losing traction when provoked.

I live in somewhat sunnier and warmer Spain but even so I still use the heated seats around 4 or 5 times a year, they are just great! If the car has leather it's got to have heated seats!
