It has been a long time coming but I finally got myself in gear!

I have run Nitron on 2 cars and 2 motorbikes in the past so I know and trust their product. (Plus the owner is a close friend of mine which I guess I should mention! So yes I have some bias but I will be honest in my reports as I get to know the new suspension better.) There are not many Z4M's out their with this set up but if my first impressions prove accurate I expect it won't be long before more of us are enjoying the experience.

There are basically 3 kits - I went for the base 1-way adjustable set up but specified uprated Eibach springs (similar to the springs used on their lowering kit) and adjustable top mounts. (These allow a far larger range of geometry settings - I think primarily Camber.)

The fitting was quite straight forward and watching Jamie at work made me realise that I should stick to checking tyre pressures and topping up the screen wash! He moved round the car like a cat - every tool had its place, each nut or bolt seemed to slot straight in and everything seemed so easy. A little trim in the boot had to be stripped which worried me a little but it all went back in perfectly which was a great relief (no rattles on the way home). It is good to watch an expert at work. He was even exceptionally polite answering all my stupid questions. Will be a great shame when his band takes off!

I will post some photos of the initial geo readouts later but I was concerned the difference between left and right seemed a little big. How stupid did I feel when Jamie calmly pointed out that the difference between 1.01˚ and 59' was 2' not 42'. Woops!

Anyway - firstly may I apologise for my extremely dirty car. It is a working tool and has done 33,000 miles now. That includes a fair few trackdays and European (Ring) trips. She's no garage queen but is nurtured in everything mechanical. I intend on keeping the car for another 2 years so I have to look after her.

Driving impressions - little too early to say. It was rush hour and snowy on my drive home. However first impressions:

Downside:
Little bit of a thump on larger bumps.
A momentary glance of a front tyre on something. The car was on full lock and very sideways at the time. I am running 245 tyres on 19 inch CSL wheels so a slight tweak may be necessary if that happens again. Nitron are confident this will be easily overcome.

Upside:
Ride is no harder than standard. There are 24 settings but I have not shifted from 10 back from full hard so far. Plenty of room to play.
My main bugbear was the rebound damping - the way the standard suspension bounces the car in to the air was a real hindrance. The Nitrons remove all that bounce making the car ride so much better on a lumpy road. I live on an old Roman road which threw my car all over the place before today. I had to go up and down it a few times tonight just to revel in the super flat ride - sweet!
Ride height. Lowered about 10mm rear and 15mm front. But this is adjustable so I may take it lower.

Too early to say:
Grip/cornering.
Roll.
Dive.

In conclusion - I am very pleased with the purchase and I hope the forecast snow does not appear tomorrow so I can do my track day at Brands Hatch!

i cant wait to get the track review!!! who fitted these for you?

I seriously hope Brands works out tomorrow - would be great to try it out on the track but the forecast snow will probably rule that out.

Had it fitted by Nitron. They were doing a free fitting deal - may be worth asking!

blacklines any news on the trackday? did you manage to sort the rubbing issue out as thats somethink i wouldnt be able to put up with

Rubbing issue:
I have still only covered about 80-90 miles all in rush hour and it has only happened once when I was drifting (closed private road etc etc) - but if it happens again it will be sorted or I'll go back to my OE suspension!

i wonder what caused it or if it was you hearing a noise and thinking it was rubbing, i no these coilover suspension kits make all sort of different noises, so hopefully it was just that, also just a quick question from the nitron site the pic they have of the kit looks different to yours?? are they displaying things we wont get?? dont forget to get back to me on a full review here the scenario id love to have feedback on, dry warm track around 23 outside temp, with warm ps cups or similar (toyo 888s), you would really get to see how these babies have changed the ride/handling, arrrhhhh im in heaven.

Looks like a tasty piece of kit. How easy is it to adjust the ride height?

Hmmm - don't know is the simple answer to your question. The Nitron boys do it all for me but I will ask the question.

My suspicion is that on my set up (ie the most basic) it will be a bit of work but the 3-Way kit with adjustable preload may be different. I could be talking rubbish so I will check!

Forget where you're based Blacklines, but sounds like a nice bit of kit. Would be interested in seeing how it compares with the KW Clubsports I have sometime! Will have to catch up somewhere (trackday or elsewhere)!

Hi Andy. I'm in Stratford -but I'm down your way a fair amount visiting a friend in Virginia Water.

It would be good to do a comparison - and I'm thinking of fitting a cage and seats so would be very interested having a look at your car.

Ben.

If you've not got my number, PM me yours and I'll text it over. Can give me a shout when you're down this way. Any plans to come down over Xmas?

Love the setup mate, after being in the Lotus/VX scene a while, i know how good the Nitrons are

Interesting corner weighting indeed! Intriguing how those cunning germans offset all that weight (30+kgs) to the right hand side in preparation for a driver on the left on their own. This will make our right-hookers positively lop sided once a driver gets in...

I can not compare the Nitron directly to the KW kit but my initial impressions were positive and a little more time in the car has reinforced my opinion.

The car rides superbly but the weather has ruled out limit handling tests. Both KW and Nitron have fantastic reputations - to my mind the Nitron edges ahead. Some may argue thats because my friend runs the company! :)

Happy to let any of you guys have a go in the car.

Cheers

Ben.

bumping this back from the dead, youve had these fitted for ages now... can you give us a proper review on these now???

how have they held up in everyday uses for the last year?

also i noted we discussed rubbing, it seems your only 10mm rear 15mm front, im wondering why this setup would rub when the much more popular eibach springs only option lower 20mm on the front and i havent read one single person complain about rubbing including the owners with the larger CSl wheels ;-)

hows the suspenison on track??

are you finding it more comfortable in day to day use?? maybe i should use the word more compliant??

any answer here would be great!!
