NHS - Top Hospital

Much has been written lately regarding the NHS, most of it in a negative light, so having to attend our local (Warwick Hospital) Endoscopy Unit yesterday I'm going to buck the trend.

My treatment and the whole experience was brilliant, all totally down to the staff from the receptionists to the doctor and his female team, so friendly and professional I have just written to the hospital praising and thanking them, not something I would normally have done for someone carrying out their duties. I hope the message gets passed on.

It could be we are lucky with our postcode, but I don't think so. There must be hundreds of people out there who admire and receive good treatment from the NHS and perhaps we should do more to broadcast how lucky we are. I appreciate there will be some negative experiences voiced but I'd prefer to hear some positive encouragement for the NHS staff.

I have been treated at Warwick hospital, Lakin Road many times as an outpatient and an inpatient, my late Father was treated their extensively over several years as have several other family members, I agree with you the care and service I have always received and witnessed over many years and certainly since the old Warneford Hospital in Leamington closed has been truly exceptional

I've had a lot of treatment over the last 3 years on the NHS, major surgery followed by surveillance (CT, MRI, PET scans), endoscopies, blood tests etc etc and the whole process has been very efficient. I remember years back a visit to hospital took hours of waiting around.

One thing that is still bad is availability of beds for inpatients, operations are being cancelled very frequently purely because of a shortage of beds.

Steve, someone who remembers Warneford Hospital must be nearly as old as me, both my wife and son were born there. Grim memories!

I’m originally a Leamington boy.
I was born in Warneford Hospital in 1953, 2 of my 3 sisters also born there, my son was born there in 92, I went to Lillington C of E Infant School, Lillington Junior School, Blackdown High School, Warwickshire college, bought up in Lillington where my Mother still lives, have a sister in Harbury and another in Leamington (Sydenham Farm Estate) lived in Bishops Tachbrook until 1994, then lived in Warwick until I moved to Devon in 2008, still miss Leamington and Warwick lovely area, agree with you my memories of Warneford Hospital are grim, an old, dark, dingy, very Victorian place, can't fault Warwick Hospital though.

Mind you even the Warneford was not as grim as Central Hospital, Hatton not that I was ever a patient there or treated there, that was truly a very grim and scary place.

I graduated from Warwick Medical School and undertook a lot of my rotations at Warwick Hospital so good to read this

So did you go for the full anesthetic or just the numbing?

Hi Steve, they say its a small world, we were all born in Leamington Spa, me 12 years before you, spent most of my time overseas until coming back to live here around 25 years ago working out of Rugby. Familiar with all the places you mention, our 6 year old grand daughter is at Lillington Primary School, walking distance from where we live.

Good to hear some nice reports, at the end of the day it's only as good as the people who work there.
There were rumours a few years ago that Warwick would be closed and we would have to go to Coventry, which as you may know is massive and a bit intimidating I suspect.

Hi Srhutch, I guess your question is directed to me and I opted for the 'numbing effect', still a pretty weird experience. I was shocked to see the size of the intrascope, around 10mm dia. which is what we used to use for inspecting turbine and generator internals etc. I was expecting something around 3mm dia.

I opted for that method also as I thought it would get me out quicker (that's what they told me) still had to wait two hours afterwards though. That was five years ago, and only last week I actually got a written copy of the results. :lol:

That's something else that impressed me, came away with a full report and his recommendations, hiatus hernia by the way.

I was put off by the anaesthetic, insisting you could not drive for 24 hours and i think he said no alcohol either. It was an easy descision after that.
