Hello everyone,

I've been reading your contributions and I would want to thank everyone for the inputs on all those issues.

I hope to learn and if possible to contribute to others with some lessons learned myself.

Cheers :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.

But we do like to see photos!

Hello there
You are absolutely right...my mistake.
Yesterday i wasn't in a mood because i had just bought
my car...a 35I with 176k kms but looks good.
I drove it from Porto to Lisbon (367 kms...8,4l/100km). Everything was fine until the next day. I decided to just go out for a ride. Suddently the engine amber light came on. The car is working fine...today i'll be taking it to the BMW gatage.

Your Z4 looks great!

Good luck getting the EML extinguished.

Hello,
As i said, i took the car to a Bosch Car Service. The diagnose was pretty bad. It seems that at some point of the cars life, someone gave it a "Downpipe" .... which means basically getting rid of the catalyst. Since the ECU tries to read values from the catalyst, but doesn't find any, it trows an error (EML amber comes on).

I confronted the dealer with this tecnical report, and i was told to bring in the car ...which will be fitted with two catalyst missing.

All makes sense…two options refit primary catalysts and O2 sensors or find a third party to code the error code light out.

Are the secondary catalysts in place?

I assume the car has been tuned as well ?

Hi B21,

1) Are the secondary catalysts in place? I didn' know there were secondary catalyst.
Where are they located?

2) I assume the car has been tuned as well ? I thought it wasn't possible to find out if it was reprog....
How can it be found...if soo?

See picture, unless you’ve had a complete exhaust I assume the secondary cats are still in place which means the car MAY still pass an emissions test..

A good tuner or a BMW main dealer can check / take back to stock any tune…most others will never know..
