Hi, everyone. In the process of trying to get rid of my 6.0L diesel F250 and get me a little bitty Z4 haha. Gonna take some getting use to, but hopefully I'll have one within just a few short months! Anyways...I just have a few questions. First off, I guess there's gonna be a lot more European users than I'm use to on the Powerstroke forums, so what European terminology will I hear a lot that you won't normally hear in the US but I should probably know? From watching the BBC version of TopGear, I hear "Zed" alot. Never heard that before then. Also, is the "5x plate" European? Never heard that before either.
Now my next few questions are going to be about performance upgrades and common problems (trust me, after owning a 6.0L Powerstroke diesel, there can't be anymore problems than those things had!) so let me just tell you what I'm looking for. My price range is going to put me in the 03-05 year range, and the car MUST be a 3.0 with a manual 6-speed. NO steptronic or whatever the heck it's called transmission. Of course I'd like to have one that's loaded with as many options as possible, but they come standard with more options than most comparable American models (like a Mazda MX5 or Nissan 350Z). So with this engine/transmission Z4, are there any common issues? Also, what kinda mileage do these cars normally make it to before seeing some more frequent/serious issues.
There are several reasons for the step-down in size vehicles, and you can probably guess some of them just by riding by a gas station. But another big reason is because my best friend and I live near the mountains of North Carolina and close to the beach in South Carolina, so we're probably going to be making a lot of mountain and beach trips with the girlfriends. Well he's actually doing the same thing I am right now, selling his F250, but he's going for a Porsche Boxster S instead. As far as the mountain trips go, there's going to be lots of twisty turning roads, and I've noticed from the videos I've watched between the two cars that the Z4 seems to have a lot more "squishy" suspension making it have more body roll. Is there any recommended suspension upgrades to give the car less body roll and make it perform a little better in tight or quick turns? Are there any other performance upgrades that are decently beneficial that I should look into? Now keep in mind I'm not wanting to spend thousands at a time, just small stuff here and there to up the power little bits at a time. Do they make tuners/programmers/chips and stuff for these things?
