Newbie wheel & tyres

Hi all
Just bought an 09 3.0idrive and would appreciate your experiences regarding wheels and tyres.
The car has 19" wheels which I think are 296 style, the tyres are 255/30 rear and 225/35 front with run flat tyres, as you can imagine, the ride is pretty hard especially on Yorkshire's roads! A past MOT from 2014 states the rear alloys were cracked and have been replaced.

I love the look of the wheels but need to soften the ride a bit, could keep 19" wheels and get rid of run flats, or change down to 18" with 35/40 profile tyres, would like to keep a similar style wheel if going down a size.
Any advice welcome
Cheers
Ian

296s on a DSB 89 just suit so well , in terms of ride quality & wheel protection you can achieve quite a lot simply by switching to better sizes , better pressures & choosing the brand of tyre that will give the best in terms of comfort .
Of the many the Uniroyal RS3 , Vredestein Vorti & Kumho all offer great all round performance with comfort for reasonable spend , if you prefer to spend more on rubber then of the bigger brands id look to the latest generation Pzero or Conti6
Size wise definitely consider a 245 35 or even 255 35 rear / front 225 35 should be fine but 235 35 is doable
Pressures try 34psi front / 36-37psi rear

Welcome to the forum , whereabouts Yorkshire are you ?

Welcome to the forum by the way - your car looks great!

If you like the wheels I'd probably just swap to non-runflats - at the same time you could always think about swapping to 225/40 on the front and 255/35 on the rear for a bit more sidewall.

Beaten to it by mr wilks - I'd go with his advice!

Thanks for the replies, I'm in East Yorks. I've seen a BMW style 293 wheel which looks similar and is available in 18" so could change to 255/35R and 225/40F if it's going to make a big difference.

As above, stick with those wheels and just change to non run flats. I have the same with 235/35/19 255/35/19 Uniroyal Rainsport 3 and the ride has been transformed. No need to drop to 18s.
Did I already reply to you on FB?
