Newbie tire pressure sensor question

Okay, so I bought this car with the intention of doing some autocrossing... part of that will involve getting a separate set of rims/soft tires.

This is my first automobile with tire pressure sensors. My question is... is there any special precaution I need to be taking when I swap out non sensor compatible rims/tires? is it going to be beeping at me all the time/procedure to disable? procedure for swapping the OEM ones back on? Is this all wireless? (seems like it would have to be, or maybe there's some elaborate bearing mechanism in the center of the wheel :o) Yes, I know nothing about this technology.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

I don't believe (well I know it's not in the M so assume the others are the same) that there are sensors that actually measure pressure. Instead it measures the rolling radius of the wheels, and if there is a miss match from one side to the other it raises an alert.

Just swap rims as you please, set pressures - if the warning goes, reset it and off you go.

I think that North American cars have TPM's inside the wheel, usually an extension of the valve assembly. (non-M's) If or when I switch to non -RFT's and get a mobility kit it will of course wreck the TPM if I use the tire foam and require replacement after a flat. As for the alarm system in the car when swapping wheels I have no idea but I'm sure someone in the US or Canada has swapped wheels and can help.....

Interesting, is this a US requirement or just to keep up with other manufacturers? Only ask as the Exige had proper tyre pressure monitors available in the states only, and all other markets had to fit non OEM.

I asked about these TPM's on here a while back and got info from some of the more knowledgeable members, I also checked the info section of TireRack.com. I think it's NA only and a requirement by law to have TPM's of some sort.
