Newbie - soon to be proud Z4 owner

Hello people, just wanting to introduce myself......

I'm looking to get a Z4 3.0se within the next few months (sooner the better). I've never owned one before, I've never owned a BMW before and in fact I've never owned a German car before!

I'm thoroughly excited about getting my Z4, the nicest car I've ever owned is a Renaultsport F1 Megane 225, or maybe a Toyota MR2 (new model) so I’m taking a big step! I’m currently driving around in a shed Clio 1.2 and have been for the last 3 years while I’ve sorted out my house, now it’s time to take the plunge.

I’ve been torn between a Z4 and Vauxhall VX220 Turbo for a while, mainly due to the VX’s performance but have decided I also want some luxury (not keep fit window winders) but still want top performance hence why I’m looking at the 3.0SE. I have a 40 mile round trip daily commute, and always thought the 3.0 would guzzle the fuel, however after reading up it’s not too bad! I’ve always wanted to own a BMW but never fancied a ‘run of the mill’ car, I’ve toyed with the idea of a 1/3 series in the past but glad I didn’t. Going from a 1.2 Clio to a 3.0 Z4 will take some getting used to!

Anyway I hope to be posting some photo’s up soon of my new pride and joy.

As you may have guessed, I’m pretty excited (mainly that the Mrs has given the ‘go ahead) so what can I expect performance wise? My cousin used to have an M3 54 plate and that terrified the life out of me. I know the 3.0SE wouldn’t be able to touch that, but can anyone compare the two? Or are they worlds apart?

I’ve tried finding some videos on youtube of a 3.0SE with standard exhaust, (maybe someone being ‘naughty’ on a motorway or something( just to hear the engine note but couldn’t really find much, any suggestions?

Thanks again guys, I’ve always been an active member on the forums of my previous cars and plan to do the same here.

Cheers

Welcome!

Exciting new car feeling, nothing can beat it. You getting the roadster or Coupe?

Have you tried evo.co.uk / pistonheads or other car sites for the video?

Hi welcome.

keep your eye on here, there is a few come up for sale.

enjoy your search. and enjoy the ride home in it!!!!!!

Hi Raify, I'm going for the roadster. Didn't realise there were videos on pistonheads tbh. I'll take a look.

Cheers.

Hi welcome! I'm pretty new here as well and my prev (and only) car was a Mini. You could imagine the grin on my face when I first put the accelerator down and heard the roar of the straight V6 :D

I'm chaffed with my car except for the steering I get (or not in this case) at high speed. Still undecided if this is a prob with my car or general issue with Z4 - will hopefully find out next week!

The early ones were all one spec. The 3.0i and SE are one of the same. Only when you get into the 06 facelift models with the new engine do you get differences, they are the Si models. The early ones will go as fast as any sane human being could desire to go, it'll pull 6th gear from as low as 40mph all the way to 155 sounding great all the way. They are good on fuel if you are gentle with your right foot, I rekon 25 to 35 mpg simply depending upon how you drive.Don't mess with exhaust mods, not worth it IMO, BMW got it bang on 1st time and lots can be spent for little or no improvement, with some of the aftermarket systems droning really badly with no performance gain.Take some of the foam out of the sound resonator thingy if you want to go deaf. Go for good spec, ( Xenons, Carver hi fi, 18" alloys, Msport seats if you are slightly built, normal ones if you are more chunky etc).As always , mileage, condition and history are the major considerations.Good luck with your search.
