Signing up on behalf of my partner - she's taken a liking to Z4s.

We believe we are going to focus on 6 cylinder models as I had an E34 535i sport a few years back and the 6 cylinder noise with the roof down is a ni e soundtrack I'm sure.

We're thinking the 2.5 may be a nice compromise between performance and economy from the 2.0 and 3.0 engines as it will be used daily.

Started off looking at trade and online classified sales and it's surprising how values differ (lower) on owners clubs - but that's often the case.

I'm keen to find a vehicle that's had a few options ticked. Found the handy link to see which options were selected at purchase and that's been handy.

New to the Z4 so I'm still working my way through the common faults and sought after colours and trims.

Go straight for the 3.0 you get the same MPG as the 2.5 (sometimes more) and you get more kit as standard.

Welcome to another Somerset member

I've had my 2.5 SE for approaching 7 years with nothing but good things to say really. If you want a six-pot stick with it, it's a cracking engine. I chose the the best available 2.5 over a 3.0 based on condition, history and mileage rather than just engine size. You will get a lot of calls to just go with a 3.0 but I'd try both and buy on quality, I've never felt short changed on runs or when pressing-on.

I wrote a piece on my first year of ownership which is probably typical of the issues to look out for. Since the work I listed in 2011 all I've needed is servicing, brakes and fitted staggered 108 wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1a2 tyres which are excellent. So if you choose well the e85 should not be a scary prospect. Good luck with the search :)

Yes, the only way to go is 3.0!

Hope you find a good one soon. Then you can post some photos!

I've had a couple of 2.5 Z4's and been perfectly happy with them, as has Mr Wilks. Its a matter of finding a well looked after car , with the right mileage, accessories and at the right price. I wouldnt discount any 2.5 over a 3.0 if it ticked all the boxes. In fact I've also owned 3.0 & a 2.5 at the same time and preferred the 2.5 Out of the two, for performance as I found the 2.5 livelier in the middle rev band.

I would however discount the 2.0 & 2.2 if you want a sportier performance.

Maybe I'm guilty of being corrupted by power - it does depend upon what you are looking for, but I think it tends to be true that there is no difference in running costs or economy between 2.5 and 3.0! To be fair I haven't tried a 2.5 Z4, but then I only wanted a Coupe so a 2.5 wasn't an option!

Plus my daily is a 325ti, so my Z4 had to have noticeably more grunt than that! :driving:

When I was searching for a Z4 in early 2015 I had set my heart on a pre-facelift (better looking!) 3.0i car. I went to see many and they were mostly scruffy/high mileage/poorly maintained etc. Then I went all the way to Milton Keynes to view a 53 plate 2.5i SE, 53,500m, 2 lady owners, fsh, good spec & equipment inc. SMG box and hardtop. As soon as I saw it I knew it was the one for me. Immaculate condition and drove like a brand new car. I drove it away for the bargain price of £3900 ! Now 18 months later I have absolutely no regrets about my choice.

Got one :driving:

3.0
Low miles
Navigation professional
Xenons
Etc etc - some nice extras.

To suit the rules - here's the only pic I have taken so far.
