Newbie picking up car on Tuesday

Hi all,

I was due to pick up my Z4 23iS yesterday, but unfortuantely it got delayed :( .

So I am now picking it up on Tuesday evening instead (2 more sleeps to go :D). I noticed that there was some condensation in the rear lights, hopefully the BMW dealer will have this sorted before I pick it up.

Is there anything that I should look out for when I collect the car?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Cheers

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Check the hubs aren't badly rusted already - they may offer a paint up?

Do E89s have problems with fog lamps condensation like the facelift E85s?

Good luck with your Zed and welcome to the Forum!

Thank you for the advice and the welcome, I will check them. Silverstone Classic is going to be interesting next year as I won't know what to do, every year so far my husband and I have come up with the NSX but now that I have the Z4 it will be a dilemma.

I just wish I had been able to sell my 116d rather than hand it over to BMW at the part-exchange price they offered :(

Anyway 1 sleep left :D

Hello Sharon , Re the condensation in rear lights , i wouldn't trust the dealer to rectify this without your insistence so give the boot & bootwell area a good look & feel for any damp or even holding water :o

Hi Sharon and welcome to the Forum :) - check it over thoroughly when you pick it up and sign for it - too late after you have driven away or at best difficult to get a dealer to rectify ant problem. I'm sure it will be OK - enjoy

Hi Sharon, can you post the link to the car so we can see the wheels on it?

I have had a few cracked wheels, so you need to be sure it's ok before you drive it away.....

Welcome. I do hope they've not sold it as a 23iS as there is no such thing. With regards to the rear light, it's got jack all to do with damp or water in the boot, unfortunately the first cars had an issue with a badly designed seal and usually the drivers side gets condensation due to water ingression. I highly doubt the dealer will change the rear lights as its a £300 replacement cost, BMW don't cover under AUC warranty. They'll have the
car out of the cold and wet to ensure its looking good when you pick it up.

wheels are only really an issue if your new car has 19s otherwise it should be fine.

Not really much to look out for really, they seem to be sound cars unlike some other models.

I just hope the weathers good for you picking it up and just enjoy the drive home

Thank you to all for your feedback, the dealer has promised to sort out the issue with the rear light so lets see if they are true to their word. With respect to a picture, here is the only one that I have at the moment:

The woman in the back looking miserable is me freezing to death, the guy is from the garage looking over the car as it was brought up from Portsmouth BMW for me.

I appreciate the E89 has well known & documented faults with rear lenses but as a matter of course with any convertible car i would always check the boot area carpets & well for damp & moisture . There are many BMW's suffering water ingress & the E89 had a recall for a vent in the boot that caused water build up
Just a basic simple check before you buy can save a whole load of hassle & money to cure after your name hits the logbook

I've never seen any issues with the 294 style wheels that you have, so you should be fine nothing to worry about. The rear lights did have a tendency to fog up a bit and should burn off any condensation, you will see a puddle in the light cluster if it's letter water in. I'd get them to put it in writing that they will replace if it doesn't clear up I a week or two. I had the same on my 09 E89, but it cleared up on its own.

Lovely car, looks great in black just a real PITA to keep looking great.

And it still stands that the rear lights have nothing to do with the boot, but knowing how great BMW design is at being flawed Its always good to check for any damp however as a AUC car you are supplied with a HPI certificate as well as a list of checks that have been done, one of them being that they check for any outstanding recalls so if any hadn't been done then they will be done prior to collection, afterall its not costing the garage as they get the money back from BMW UK. If they tell you its been done and provide you with documents to advise so and its not then you take it up with BMW UK who are very good at getting the dealers to sort things they've said have been done and possibly claimed for. But as SO8 showed you could buy a lemon even if you've checked everything and seven away happy for a day or two.

Well no more sleeps, and wow what a car. The gear change is so smooth, the noise very nice and the heat seats are scorching :D . The only thing that I have found is that the steering is a little lighter than what I am used to, but I am sure that I will get used to it with time.

Had to take a long drive home tonight, well it would have been rude not too

Does anyone know how easy it is to retrofit the BMW hands free kit to the car? I have noticed that the steering wheel already has the buttons so just wondered.

Any I glad delighted to be a part of the Z4 owners club :D
