Newbie - looking for a 2.0

Hiya
I've been lurking for a while, now the house move to the east midlands is complete it's time to buy.
Looking for a 2.0 - commute to work is only 6 miles, I figure not enough distance for the bigger 6 cyls to warm up?
Prefer cloth seats. Equipment level and colour not important. Mileage - below 100k - service history and condition is.
Budget around 6k.

Happy to travel for the right car, happy to take recommendations.

Cheers

Nick

Personally i would want at least a 6pot, so either 2.2/2.5/3.0. That way you can enjoy in more over the weekend when you get to stretch its legs and wont end up kicking yourself for not getting one in the first place. Running costs aren't that much different and your mileage doesn't make the fuel an issue.

Lots of 2 litres available and at your price point you'll have a good choice. Do a search to find that a 3 litre (or 2.5) would work for you as well (as long as you take it our for a thrash once every week or so). The engines prefer to be revved to avoid issues with the top end.
2 litres engines have issues with exhaust manifolds splitting and engine warning lights being bothersome to sort out. Most of the forum will encourage you to consider a 3 litre (6cylinder) against the 2 litre (4 cylinder). I've had both and the 2 litre is a great Zed to enjoy on back roads and rev out without threatening your licence too much. As a commuter it would be fine though lose more money over the long run as the 6 cylinder Zeds are more sought after. Take time to consider your purchase as there are lots available at your price point. Lots of advice on this forum.

Thanks for the replies, straight line performance doesn't worry me too much, I turn to my 148bhp Ducati when I need that...

Wyldie85 yours is lovely but a touch out of my budget range.

I just moved from Kent to Northants BTW.

Hi old-git, its not just the performance of the six pots that makes them more desirable-its the sound & the smoothness as well as being easier to sell on when the time comes.
As Paul says, the 4 pot engines can be more troublesome as well, the running costs are not very much different so i wouldnt let that put you off.
regards

As been said many times its not all about straight line speed 0-60 etc etc, but the six pots power delivery is so much, well nicer plus the sound and also torque it pulls from so low down, so when cruising put your foot down, leave it in top, and away it goes. Oh did I mention the noise at 6000rpm in third :D

Found a really nice 3.0 for sale locally today. Unfortunately sold already but he will ring me if it falls through.

Welcome to the forum. I had a 2.0 for 6 months and then made the jump the the 3.0 with no regrets. Good luck with whatever you chose :)

Well I picked up a nice 2.0 today, just 60k miles, Black paint and interior. Missing a handbook though - will look online but the readout below the miles and trip are just dashes - is that for a clock? how does one set it please?

Hold the two buttons below the speedo in and then use them to set hours/minutes. Don't forget to post some pics.

Thanks all. Found a handbook online :D

Crap pic, will post some better ones when I can.

Now to order a aftermarket radio adapter, gotta get planet rock in the car
