Hi all

Currently in process of choosing a new car and in a toss-up between a 335 C (e92) and a z4C (e86)

335 Coupe was prob the likely choice due to the practicality but upon reseaching I have come across the cracked alloy issue / risk which seems to be really common

Hoping you guys can give me the equivalent insight into the e86 z4C

I understand the issue on the 335 is the fact the wheels were 19"s added to the runflat tyre. The advice seems to be to downsize the wheel because if you change to non-runflats you have more give but you dont have much tyre between wheel and road so you have different problems. It seems that 18" in my mind would incur similar problems.

(1) what is the deal with the z4C please? Any noteable problems with cracked alloys on the e86?

(2) what do you guys do - are you on runflats or non-runflats? If on non-runflats what do you do about the risk of puncture? How does this work for you on a day-to-day basis? I would be using it as my daily driver

All input gratefully received!!!

tks

Yes e92's do suffer from cracked rear wheels. The early wheel styles.I have 225style wheels & one of the rears cracked a few months ago.i have now ditched the rft's on that too as well as the zed. Both cars drive far better. On the e86 dont think there is a big problem with wheels, i had mv'2 on mine & they were fine. Now changed for csl's.

As for the fear of pucture, Air compressor & some tyre foam in the boot. Been on the non rft's 2 years now no problems. :driving:

So you dont bother with runflats at all?

You dont think its worth a space saver in the boot, albeit it floating around in there of course?

I have read reviews on the tyre foam that you can just about limp to a garage and thats it - a puncture on a motorway could be a problem esp as you are unlikely to know where the nearest tyre bay is ?

As an alternative the AA or Green Flag generally know where there is a handy tyre supplier. Else have it dropped at your home. I have been on here for a couple of years now and I can't think of a single thread where not having runflats has led to an epic inconvenience.

I was at the tyre fitters last night to replace my OSR RFT which was losing pressure rapdily. "you can't replace them with non-run flats or you'll crack the rim" i said its my decision and i wouldn't hold them responsible. lo and behold when they took the rim off it was already cracked in 2 places.

any got a spare 107 rear ? surrey area
