Looking at getting a Z4 and really have 1 question.

I currently drive a 52' Plate 2002 BMW 325i M Sport coupe Manual. I know the book says i should get 31mpg but the computer tells me i get normally between 23.5 - 24mpg, basically 280miles out of £56(full tank). I dont do any motorway miles its all round town, I've begrudginly come to accept this and thus would be happy with a Z4 2.5 however I started thinkin why not look towards the Z4 3.0 the book suggests it returns the same MPG....

Simple question Does it? what kind of fuel economy do you guys see from 2.5 to 3.0's both standard SE versions not really looking at an si.

Thanks Guys

I get around 30mpg around town with up to 37mpg on motorway.

2003 2.5 SE

Have you tried resetting the OBC on the 325? Then resetting the fuel consumption etc on the stalk too? Just to make sure you get the correct figures.

I had a 320 for over a year and didn't realise you could reset the figures until a week before I traded it up or down to the Z4.

I drive a 3.0 as a daily commuter and get a combined hwy/city mileage of 26 mpg. Highway only 29-30 mpg (70-80mph) and city only 22-21 mpg. A 16 gallon tank would be nice sinc i hate stopping for gas and usually put in 13.1 -13.7 gallons on a refill  I find the computer to be a little optimistic on the highway range... :poke:

from what I've seen posted in the past, the 3.0 does indeed get as good or better milage than the 2.5. Keep in mind that it has an extra gear. :driving:

Average here is 26-27 mpg since getting the car last year. motorway about 30mpg... more if you keep the speed down

My 3.0 is averaging 28/29 mpg. I tend to do mostly short journey and around town, my longest journeys are when I 'go for a drive' and tend to make good progress hehe ;)

Much better than my last car on fuel!

I've got the 2.5i and it gets about what these 3.0 guys are quoting you. I'm heavy on the foot also which doesn't help.

Yeah i'm heavy on the foot too, plus I don't pay attention to mpg rates. I will say in city I get around 270 or more miles to the tank (I fill up when the gauge reaches 1/4) highway the most i've driven is around 310-320 before filling up. An that only because I've reached my destination, though the car is around 1/4 tank there too. Oh and that's usually doing 85mph or better.

Mine is an 03 3.0

my wife does short journeys in our 3.0se and the comp reads about 24ish and when ever im on the motorway i always reset it and can get between 29 and 34 depending,a big drop from our last car,a 330d it was fantastic on the fuel

I'm with Aebous, I don't pay a whole lot of attention but I know it's around what these other guys are getting. It's just a play toy for me so when I drive, it's all out. I will occasionally go on leisurely drives but always make up for it at some point during the day. If you're going to have a sports car, drive it like one and enjoy it.

I'll also add that i'm usually a pretty leisurely driver on the interstate (when I'm driving outside of Vegas) so the speedo is between 80-90mph. At least till those F'n minivans pass me. I mean come on, they are in a f'n minivan. The damned vehicle is made to go what 70mph safely. BUT NOOOO they think they can do 90+. Stupid drivers. So yeah sometimes I can't resist because the good, calm, patient, nice half of me is on vacation. Oh and those ricer punks, lock an load! Get that coffee can crap off your car, it makes you sound like an idiot. I won't usually race them though cause A: I do respect that for relatively money they made a crap car into a crappy race car and B: they may have there stuff tuned/powered well enough to walk over the Z4, and we don't want to give them the satisfaction do we?

This all just further reinforces the fact that it's probably better I don't have a gun/blowgun/crossbow etc. Cause some people might loose tires by "road hazards"
/rant off

I've got a 3.0 coupe and average mid 20's on a tank. My commute is 104 miles a day mix of motorway and A roads. I do have a heavy foo though.

In an around town this drops to low 20's

marriedblonde, my mpg's go to hell in a handbasket around town too :D . One minute I'm on full, next thing I know...I'm at half  . But it sure is fun draining the tank!

I looked at the fancy computer on the way to work yesterday just for you. Yep it's around the low 20's.

I get a fairly regular 30-32mpg with a 2006 2.5SE (6 speed box) on a regular A and B-road commute, driving sensibly most of the time
