New Z4MR - servicing etc in/near Yorkshire?

I've just entered the world of high performance motoring after admiring Z4Ms from afar, and bought a Jan '08 Z4MR in sapphire black. It's just had its first oil service (and the all-important 1200 mile service last year). I'm wondering who you guys let look after yours?

I assume I need to take it to a main dealer for proper services (eg the Inspection 1 due in 15000) in order to keep it eligible for BMW used approved etc, but I'd guess people are more reluctant to pay BMW main dealer prices for things like tyres, aligmnent, brakes. Or is the 'M' so special it really needs BMW-specific attention?

Interested in peoples' general responses, and if anyone has any specific advice for the Leeds/Yorkshire/Northern England area I'd be very grateful. Hope to see people out on the road!

I'll be taking mine to Sytner in Sheffield next month for the oil service.

I've used both Sytner & Sandal (Wakefield) in the past. Not aware of any independent ones, but have never really looked to be honest

Thanks for the replies - some useful info, I'll try them out!

My new car. I really like the look of the coupe (over the roadster) but I've always wanted a soft-top and I'm not sure if I'll get the chance again so went for this one. I just saw a 3.0si coupe in black up the road this afternoon and it looked amazing. Mine's a fairly standard setup though it's had the TV/satnav upgrade (why?) as well as the obligatory heated seats. Haven't worked out what the audio system is - it sounds pretty good (I've heard bad things about the basic one) though there's no impressive graphic equaliser etc so I may well have the bog-standard.

My previous car (Freida). I get a lot fewer people looking at me now! 50 -> 340BHP is quite a big change...
I'm back driving it again for the moment as I wanted to get the alignment checked on the Z4M. I saw my local independent garage being recommended on an Audi forum (they have the Bosch Optiflex setup) so I'm letting them have a go - I'll let people know how I get on. They've seemed pretty good in my previous dealings with them (though they've never been the cheapest) but I've never had to trust them with quite such a car as the Z4M before...

Is it true that BMW garages give you one of their Z4Ms to play with while yours is being dealt with?

What kind of things do people have done at the independents vs the main dealers?

Don't think you'll have much of a Z4M now 'cos hardly any dealers have got any left, sure you'll get something interesting though :)

Do a search here about alignment, there was a long thread about it recently. KDS? Something like that.

I'll definitely give Cramag and BM a look next time I need something done.
Does anyone know if a car can be accepted onto the BMW Approved Used Programme if it's been serviced at an independent?

Just got mine back from Simon Green Motors in Horsforth, Leeds after a slightly extended 4-wheel alignment (mostly due to the weather) which cost £65+vat (BMW quoted me £250) . They seem to know their stuff (they've worked on the cow car before) and have told me they're happy dealing with Z4Ms. And most importantly they seem to have fixed the slight left pull I was experiencing.

Cliche, you'll need to stick with BMW for servicing if you ever want the option of trading it in, as they won't take it back without their own history (Swines) and for any approved used warranty (which is insurance). As your car is an 08 though you DON"T to maintain said warranty - it's still on the original, factory one and as long as its serviced to BMW spec with OEM parts, its fine.

It is quite a specialist car in that it's not just plugs and an air filter! So you will want someone who knows the car, but specialists will be in the £450 area IIRC for INSP1. Having said that if you do stick with BMW, when the time comes you can get main dealers to price match each other. BMW want between £600-£900 for it, but get a quote from Cotswolds (who always seem to be the cheapest) and get someone close to match it. I got Bournemouth to match them and didn't even have to argue much. Don't bother taking it back to BMW when you need tyres - will prob just end up paying more...

Never get given an M when I go for a service; I've been given a 325i SE Auto, 120i Sport and a Z4 3.0 :(

Its a bit further to go maybe, but autologic in Hessle East Yorkshire are brilliant, the guys who owns the garage has a Z4M// roadster as well, so he knows his stuff. They are all x-bmw technicians from the local bmw stealership.
