New Z4M - Buying tips?

Hi all,

Will be changing my 2003 2.5i to a Z4MC very soon. Going to be seeing a few this weekend and just wondering if we have a buyers guide or some general tips on what I should be looking out for? Had a quick look and found a generic one but not specific to the M.

Anything majorly important to keep an eye out for or not? :driving:

Fwiw: This is the car I am almost certain I will end up with.. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-coupe/bmw-z-series-z4-m-coupe-2006/1842443

Thanks,

Chris

Snap but with a roof.

Looks great but I would ask for full details on the service history (what, where when, miles) before viewing.

I think I spy aero side skirts too, which is a bonus!

If all checks out then it looks like a cracking buy!

Well for what it is worth gents, deal done. Car will be mine from Wednesday this week!

It is immaculate, wodge of receipts for everything and they are aero skirts as well.. Bigger discs on the front apparently, tax is due on the 1st but that was factored into the agreed price.

Certainly a step up from the 2.5i :driving: Now just need to sell the current one, hoping it isn't too hard to keep them both insured (even though the roadster will only be insured for test drives) as all my NCD will be on the Z4MC to keep insurance to a reasonable level being 21.

Looks great, congratulations  I nearly bought one exactly like this in 2009, but it turned out to be Cat D. I do really like the red/black combination.

Unfortunately, the strut brace and aeroskirts will increase your insurance premium if you declare them. Since neither are listed in the advertisement, you could feign ignorance that they are modifications I suppose.... (I've declared mine!)

Also, the strut brace looks back to front in the photograph so it might foul the underside of the bonnet. It's an easy task to turn it around.

I did wonder that with the strut!

The "V" points towards the cabin, but from a quick google there seems to be a lot fitted both ways? So not really sure what is correct haha.

I will phone up admiral, I have a couple mods on the 2.5i (wheels etc) that are declared and made no difference to price. Again being 21 insurance is a bit of a hassle anyway (looking at £750/yr currently) but I would rather not find out that it isn't insured due to an undeclared mod if the need for it should arise.

Looks a beauty, bet you can't wait til Wednesday

Like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Just need to sell my 2.5i now as I don't have space to keep both, and insuring both is difficult as I mentioned. Hoping Admiral will insure it just to test drive!

Picked it up today in the end, in love already haha! Insurance was a bit of a nightmare, 45 minutes on the phone later and it was sorted.. But worth it.

It is certainly a bit different to the 2.5i (still for sale fwiw :p) that's for sure. Arse gets out without any provocation at all, don't dare touch the TC button!

Very nice mate I bet you can't wait.

The Aeroskirts didn't make any difference to my insurance but the change of alloys to 224's cost £30

Car looks great.

I would say you should check and potentially change the VANOS / timing gear bolts.

Remove / replace the CDV if you find you feel the clutch engagement is a bit odd and inconsistent - jerky one minute, too much slip the next.
