New Z4C Owner

After far too long looking I'm finally a Z4C owner. It's a Manual Z4 Coupe 3.0si with 58k miles. As advised in the forum I've had the wheels aligned using a Hunter 4 wheel alignment bench, which made a massive difference to the handling and checked for any fault codes. The variable valve timing sensor was not working. So replaced this at the weekend and it's completely changed the low end power.

Now I just need some dry roads as this new power seems to have awoken the traction control light.

Here's a picture (hopefully), If anyone knows the car let me know especially if they have the Bluetooth code! I've looked in the panel behind the seat and can see the unit but there's no sticker on it. So looks like I'm going in via the boot.

Welcome. The traction control light is an error that just doesn’t go away at this time of year, I’m afraid
Cool looking low mileage coupe. Any interior shots? Any plans for upgrades?

I've fixed a few things already, But these are more about seeing a new car with a cold eye vs something you've lived with. So far:

1. Replaced the boot badge.
2. New gas struts on the boot.
3. Replaced one of the rear parking sensors (so all test okay but just not working so need to look at the PDC).
4. There was a rattle from the drivers door so removed the driver + passenger door cards and put sound proofing in before closing up (doors sound much better).

Still to do:
1. The drivers seat bolster has a hole, I've put some conditioner on the leather and thought I needed to replace but it's starting to look ok. So might try one the patching kits.
2. Front badge is a faded
3. PDC as I mentioned there are some threads about this getting wiped out when sensors fail.
4. Bluetooth code, I can pay BMW 90 pounds to download this but I'm just to mean.
5. And toying with the back box delete and have a look at the heat shield on the catalytic converter. I'm getting an exhaust rattle at low speed (parking/in reverse).

Overall the car is in really good condition and doesn't really need most of this but it's more about sorting things now as opposed to putting them off. I was half thinking of putting CSL's on but I'm going to live with these wheels as they are starting to grow on me.

All good fun and great to finally have a Z4!

On the Bluetooth code - I tried that route (from behind the seat) but to no avail. I went in through the boot (had to remove a whole load of trim - horrible job) and the sticker was plain to see on top of the module (ie, not visible from behind the seat).

Good luck!

Hi and welcome aboard from a serial Coupe owner.

I bought a new front badge for my previous E86 in September 2019 on Amazon from BMW Park Lane for £40.45.

I would really recommend trying to hear one with a back-box delete before you go for it - I've heard one and it's LOUD.

As much as I like some volume, on a longer run I think it would be too much for me!

Wise words on the Backbox, I've sent a note to the fabricator to see if they can put a flange in the exhaust so I could swap back if I (more likely the mrs) doest like it.

Felt like a successful weekend as I managed to get the Bluetooth code, but ended up taking way more of the boot internals out that I originally thought. Like groovy_hippy said the sticker was on top of the unit so not visible from behind the seat.

Also pulled the PDC and all looks okay. Based on the part number it looks like a unit from a Mini. So might buy the right part from eBay for 10 pounds just to rule out someone trying to fix one problem and creating another.

The bonnet badge is something I want to change but need to see how to remove the grills, slightly paranoid that they will be really brittle after 12 years and taking all the uk weather can throw at them.

Roll on next weekend!

To get the grilles out pull them upwards at the top then pull the bottom forward away from the car. They should come out OK even this time of year - I took mine out last October when I fitted a new badge.

The badge is held on by two 10mm nuts on the back that are screwed onto posts on the base of the badge. I got mine through Amazon from BMW Park Lane for £40 and a few pence, but Cotswold BMW and Sopers of Lincoln both offer a forum discount so might be worth trying.
