So for those who asked to see it on other threads, here it is...

I should add, I know the video is cheesy but I did it for my siblings who live overseas. Picture quality isn't great, the whole process of photos, videos, editing and uploads was done on my mobile phone....

Looks great mate....now get a stubby on that beauty and you're all set!

Sadly... The car was delivered yesterday and today the roof broke. BMW suspect it's a sensor or hydraulic issue, which will need fixing next week or the week after.

It was all going so well.....

so well.....

Then the roof decided to faulter half way through closing, the windows were down and unable to be closed and the boot locked. I managed to get it to complete the closure after twenty minutes of stress. Took it straight to the dealer who looked and made the same problem repeat itself. The dealer thinks its a sensor or hydraulic issue.... So until it's fixed the roof is up all the time. Very miffed!

Hmm sounds like a bit of a nightmare to me, being unable to open is one thing, but getting it stuck down or halfway down is a right pain. Hopefully it will be a quick fix.

That must be incredibly annoying!

I'm guessing from previous posts that this is a brand new car built to order? - or was it one from dealer stock already built with delivery miles?
Either way, they should be selling you a car fit for purpose.

did you get a feel from the dealer whether this was a widespread problem or the first time they have heard of it?

Apparently it isn't a known issue. Car had been with BMW as a company vehicle since last yr. 3k miles.

It's okay, I'm sure it will get sorted. It's just a pain and makes me the laughing stock amongst friends - for now, but they'll all learn once the car is better...
...and boy, dey gonna learn!!!

I have heard of a similar issue on a 3 series convertible, where the boot lid was open and the roof was in the halfway position. It had to be put on a tow truck and taken away to the dealers in that state, so thank yourself lucky you managed to get it closed! :?

There are lots of sensors and things do need to operate in the right order at the right time, so a simple sensor failure sounds plausible. Hope you get it fixed quickly and keep us updated.

Well, my Z4 has gone back to the dealer to be magic'd better, meanwhile I've been given a auto Z4, kinda fun, but I prefer manual myself. Good of the dealer to give me a similar model though whilst mine is in for repair.

Not had roof problems just the water in the rear lights and the dancing windows.
Oh and the quality enhancement next week
I also got a shiny black E89 when it was in for repair

What's the enhancement you're having?

The "enhancement"* is the bumper coming off and rear vents replaced due to water getting into boot and shorting control unit.

*for enhancement read as "recall"!!!
Look in E89 forum there's a thread in there

So..... 6 weeks after taking delivery of my Z4 and having issue after issue, today I got a replacement. I can't fault Cooper BMW in Ipswich who seem to have a customer service attitude second to none. The car is virtually the same as the original posted above in this feed - but also now has nav.

Finally I'm a Z4 owner and driver. Only snag.... It's bloody thundering!
