New Z4 will have soft top and M version...

Yes but nothing is perfect can't expect perfection regardless of what brand you buy. Some people are just too anal.

To a degree but when most east Asian car manufacturers can churn out 100% fault free cars most of the time then why not BMW etc. I think more fool those people including me who think German is best. Still could be worse and buy French :)

Tim.

On After/Drive they were talking about this too.

If they return to a soft top and M version I'll be right on it. The current tin top zed leaves me totally cold.

Shame it won't be a NA I6 though. I can't believe not a single current BMW model has a NA I6 anymore. So sad :(

They need an M version to help shift the mainstream models. That's the reality.

The link up with Toyota is specifically to develop hybrid sports cars. Read into that what you will.

I hope they do it. It would be awesome.

What is not awesome but quite funny is that nobody has mentioned that this is the OPs first post - distracted or are we mellowing with age

:o You're right J. Hmmmm suspicious methinks. Sneaky interest inducing tactics from the industry???

ha, ha, I'm just a z4 coupe owner, who visits this forum pretty regularly, will post some pictures!

Well I can't afford an i8 never mind its M version. Besides by the time the i8 depreciates, the batteries will probably need replacing and god knows what that would cost.

Which of course is the Elephant in the room :o

I've a small deposit on an i8 and my DP keeps telling me not to worry about the batteries because they'll be sorted regarding price (oh sure)

Good man  :D

J - sleuthing fail :o

I think you are all missing the point - it's not cooperation with toyota, that worries me, but the fact they want to make z4 a HYBRID!

Hey if Mclaren, Porsche and Ferrari can make hybrid sports cars, why can't BMW, as long as it's to aid performance and not economy. I've not read or watched any report on the P1 that has said it's not a hoot to drive :D

It would just be the cost that would worry me, to get it to be exciting they have to keep weight down and that will cost, but with the i3 BMW have shown that they can

I agree with sars - hybrid tech is not new, and manufacturers seem to be finally figuring it out, albeit at the high end of the market. Eventually they'll figure out how to make it cheaper and lighter, and the resulting cars will be cheaper to own with just as much (if not more) power and performance. Having 100bhp of linear torque on hand when you want it must be an amazing feeling. Technology changes and moves on, it has to - like BMW moving to turbo-charged engines instead of NA. I bet when the first super & turbo chargers started appearing years ago the response of 'purist' drivers was exactly the same.
