New Z4 owner * update, suspension/steering help*

So a few weeks back I placed a deposit on the 3.0 cat c z4 that was in the for sale section. On Friday me and my mate are jumping on a plane from Aberdeen to Heathrow term 5 at 6am and have the task of driving all the way back. Thinking of taking the m6 toll back home thinking paying the £6 will be worth it as it's probably quieter. Have never been to London before so will be relying on sat nav to get us on our way.

Found out that the car has the centre wind deflector missing so have that already.

Mods wise, not much( until I get a job), I'd like to get the gap tech module, do the secondary cat delete I'm hoping the wheels off my M135i will fit and possibly coilovers
 
I wouldn't bother with the M6 toll road mate, it's near Birmingham! If you're heading back to Aberdeen, keep to the right of the country and go straight up the A1 right past Newcastle. Most of it is 3 lanes wide now :driving: :)
 
I always go the M6 toll - I like it, especially in the dark. It's like a big runway :-D

Interesting about the A1, I've never gone home that way and my Dad is in Fife. Might try it sometime...
 
Don't go A1 you'll add about 2 hours to your journey!
And toll road well worth the £6.
Have done the drive loads of times!
Not in the Zed unfortunately!
 
We always go up the M40, M42, M6 to Glasgow, then cut across to Edinburgh and on up to Aberdeen.

Same route the last couple of times coming back from that there London except turned left at Glasgow.
 
M6 is the quicker route. The country isn't stood upright it's canted over to the left so cutting accros to the m6 isn't like zig zagging across the country.
 
It does depend where you will be starting from. If you're west of London then I'd probably go M40/M42/M6 including toll road, but if to the east then the A1 is the way to go. Any route that minimises the M25 is the correct route.

Cheers for the replies, starting point is Heathrow T5 as owner is meeting us there. Probably will be leaving right in the middle of rush hour.... But ive heard there's not much traffic in London anyway :?
 
Good luck! I've driven essex-glasgow a few times and with traffic it's an absolute nightmare. I always go up the M6 as it's quicker. Toll is worth it during the day, but at night it's not worth paying.

What alloys are they? They look lovely.
 
Yeah cheers man, they are bola csr wheels 5x120 8x18 et40 and 9x18 et42 I'm hoping they will fit on the Z
 
So, got my z4 home, didn't miss a beat all the way up the road really like driving it but I'm gonna have to get it into the garage and get the steering/suspension looked at.
Once up to speed the steering fealt a bit vague/bit of play in steering wheel, then when going round corners the back end just do didnt feel planted at all. I'm assuming this is bushes the p/s rear wheel looks to have some camber issues.
Any advice on what the common culprits are?

I got the Meyle HD Wishbones and Lollipops along with a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and the Hunter Alignment. Sorted out the light front end / vague steering feeling.

Car feels more planted.
 
Thanks for replying, only a tank and a half to get home, was showing 40mpg on clock, really impressed for being a 3ltr. What's lollipops??
 
So the rear bushes are shot,these ones.



But obviously will be changing the rest of them as well, i suppose euro car parts yeah?

OE are a faff as you have to install with preload. Get some poly - they have limiters built in and will transform the rear end. Biggest difference I noticed.

CP4Less had them for about £40, you need a tool to install and I got new nuts and bolts from BMW.
