New Vanos and DME for Z4m - BMW dealer cost?

I'm unfortunate enough now to be getting potentially stung for a new Vanos unit and DME unit.

The vanos unit is making an intermittent whooshing like noise when i accelerate (no marble noise in a can), although not terminal yet i will need to replace the unit.

Which is more urgent however is the replacement of the DME unit. I have had a total of about x7 O2 sensors go since i've owned the car now and finally the dealers have now narrowed the reason down to a faulty DME. Apparently a o2 sensor module in the unit is showing a fault. The interesting thing also is my rev limiter is now kicking in early at 6,500 rpm!

Any ideas how much the dealers will charge for the DME and how much for a new Vanos unit?

Alternatively could i get the vanos rebuilt and upgraded, how much would this option cost ? Doe anyone have any recommendations? i'm based in the South of Scotland.
 
If your vanos needs fixing DO NOT go to BMW to get it done. They will charge you about £2500 to replace it, a good indie will be able to refurbish yours for about £500/600 with parts from a company called beisan.

Search online for Mr vanos for more information. He's local to me and has a good reputation and does travel to you to do the work. In the end I used an indie( ex BMW master tech ) in Newcastle to do mine.

Yeah thanks Dave i think i'll go the beisan upgrade path. £2500 for a new unit with the same inferior o rings doesn't make sense.

Not the same DME as an E46 M3 though so make sure whoever you talk to is aware.
