New tyres on CSLs - quick question

Hi All

I'm about to buy new tyres for my CSLs. I'm pretty sure that i'll go for Toyo Proxos as they are a godo mix of price against performance for me (I hate the Contis that i have now - compound is too hard and slidey). I also had a look at Vredsteins but there's quite a lack of suppliers and i don't want an issue down the line if i have a puncture etc.

Anyway i'm not sure if i need to get "reinforced" tyres or not. Does this mean they're runflats? I know nothing, couldn't even tell you if my current tyres are runflats.

Anyway please help as i need to get something sorted and am ordering from the internet (etyres has best price).

Cheers

Have just got the Vredesteins after reading the Evo review and LOVE them.. really good tread pattern, very predictable, quiet and grippy, nice lip to cover the alloys and i got a set for £529 on my standard 18s..

That price was from a local blokey.. much cheaper in the end than mytyres or blackcircles.. etc..

:)

I'm sure the reinforced tyres will have a stiffer side wall, which will give slightly sharper handling at the expense of a little ride quality.
My PS2s were marked XL (extra load) which I take to mean the same thing.

hello,
I bought replica csl r19 and yokohama 245/35 and 275/30.
In few days I will stop by the garage...
this weekend is going to be the last for old wheels and tires.....
old tires are not to be considered so, they have done 15k, but r18 is just not enough on my m.

Your quite right the "XL" makings denote a stiffer sidewall. I've noticed recently that newly produced PS2's with XL markings are actually more flexible than the older type. We found out after a customer complained that his car just didn't feel the same after having a new set fitted. We test drove the car and had to agree it felt a bit sloppy compared to before. We removed a tyre and compared it to the old one and the old one was much stiffer. I havn't confirmed with Michelin but it does look like they changed the spec.
