New to Z4s

Hi all,
Just thought I'd support the forum and say hello, and introduce my 2005 2.2 E85.

I bought it a few months back, it came up nearby and was just shy of a grand, with 89K and reasonably good history, slightly tired but clean-upable, and driving OK, so I snapped it up.

It's toledo blue and black leather and pretty straight, all except a small-ish ding on the drivers door and wing, hey ho it was cheap as chips!

Jobs done to date:
Coolant tank popped so done that and fresh coolant.
Oil and filter
Front pads, discs are pretty new. One calliper was siezed so I replaced it.
front drop links
Belts
Headlights polished - what a difference!
Bumper off for some minor rubbing down and painting. Lower grille was missing so now replaced
One new tyre, two more needed at the front, (not made of money but will do in a couple of weeks)
Exhaust gaskets x 2 replaced.
Rocker cover gasket renewed.
Original head unit put back, kenwood one flogged on ebay for a tenner!

That's more or less it, more to do as I go along. The hood wants a good going over - I've de-greened it but there are annoying lichen bits stuck in a few spots.

I'm used to having Boxsters but am skint these days; I wanted some cheap thrills for the summer, and I have to say this Z4 is great for grand! It's got just enough shove for me, feels tight and nimble, and with the maintenance I've done, has the premium feel that you would expect from a BMW.

My other half has used it a couple of times and now adores it, so I guess it's a keeper!

Working on it - there's so much room under the bonnet that you can get to everything without too much fuss, you can see everything and that's a refreshing change compared to other cars that are crammed full.

It's s decent spec and has heated seats, which I love. I use it to take my kid to school, he loves it too!

The one irritating thing to do is that the passenger window reg was replaced before I got it, and the window whistles like Roger Whitaker on amphetamines, so you have to crack it open a tad. I will get to it, suspect the clamp needs adjusting. Whilst I'm in there I might add some sound deadening to the door skin so it doesn't sound like a tin box when you close the door.

I ought to get a code reader really, I expect there's some things to look at.

Might stick a clutch in over winter.

I have had the three warning lights come on, to do with ABS/tires, can't recall exactly but I've done the reset and it stays off. Seems ok so I'm not going to freak out over it.

What a lot of car for under a grand!

Rambling on here so I'll shut it for now and see if I can figure out how to post a few pics.

Thanks for the info here, it's always helpful to join a forum and I will happily share any info if I can.

Cheers guys!

Welcome to the madhouse.
If you got that for a grand you've done bloody well! Looks very neat and the better seats too, with ISOfix, which isn't all that common.

Thanks! It was on FB for a grand, got it for £975, and since then I have found £6.00 in loose change dotted about, plus a vape machine thing whatever it is, a fag lighter and a single Lambert and Butler - which is probably worth a few quid on its own!

The ad suggested a suspected timing chain issue, fresh oil seemed to have helped immediately!

Happy days!

Those engines are pretty bulletproof tbh. Fresh oil always helps.
At 89k it's only just run in.
Worth popping the disa valve off and checking the internals are intact. The plastic pivot pins wear and if they break the next component they meet is an inlet valve!

Those M Sport Seats are worth at least £600 alone, if not more. Got yourself a bargain there

Welcome to the forum with your absolute bargain Z4.

Bargain if the centaurs- the seats are worth near what you paid for the car! Welcome to the exclusive 2.2 club!

Thanks mate, it seems decent so far, growing quite fond of it!

Next job is rear brakes, imbalanced and not 100%, don't know if an MOT fail, coming up in a few weeks so I want it sorted.

Steering is wandering a bit, track rod ends maybe, or the main bushings. All jobs I feel confident to do, I like working on it, which is good thing!

The seats are in need of care, may take them out and give them a good clean and what not.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! I'll try and get to some westcountry meets
