New to forum & Z4s - few quick questions to ask

New to the forum and new to Z4 ownership after buying an E85 2005 2.2 SE in Mauritiud Blue with 97K on the clock a few days ago.

Pleased with the car; just a few minor bits to resolve to get it back to its original best. It's amazing how much car you can get for your money in a Z4.

Have a few questions that I hope members of the forum could answer for me:-

1/ There are leads in the glovebox for 'audio in' and for a 'USB connection'. Is this an original feature or aftermarket? Sadly can't get my phone to work via the 'audio in' cable despite pressing the 'mode' button on the stereo (which just cycles between radio and CD). Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

2/ Keen to install a Bluetooth and hands free connection out of site behind the stereo Has anyone done this using an xcarlink system or similar? Is it easy to remove the stereo.

3/ On my car stereo it states 'business'. Has anyone any idea what this denotes?

4/ Sadly, I only received one key with the car. Keen to purchase a second and to have one that resembles a more modern BMW flip key. Have read a few articles on the forum regarding keys but not sure what the current view is. Is it easy to get a second key cheaply?

5/ Are there any key members on the forum I should note the names of who break and sell parts from Z4s? Or any members who offer services to improve the vehicles (moving roof motor to the boot etc)?

Sorry for all the questions. Great to join the forum.

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum.

Your car looks great in Maldives Blue!

The leads in the glovebox must be after-market items. Most facelift models (2006 onwards) had an Aux-in but it was mounted in the bottom of the dashboard.

Sorry I can't offer any help regarding Bluetooth but hopefully someone can as I'm sure people have installed it.

The Business stereo is the standard fit. The upgraded stereos have an amplifier in the battery compartment under the boot floor, and extra speakers behind the seats in what are otherwise storage cubbies.

I got a flip key cut for my previous Z4 by a former forum member but he has been removed from here after some issues. Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction!

People on here do break cars from time to time, but I don't think anyone does it regularly.

There are a few people who relocate roof motors into the boot. If you give an indication of your whereabouts we can give you details. If you are anywhere near Hook in Hampshire there is a forum member who has been running his own BMW and Mini workshop for a couple of years.

Enjoy. :driving:

Welcome to the forum.

That’s a very smart Z4 in MaldivesBlue. Are you in Hampshire by the way, I see a couple of them about? LLet me know if you find anyone breaking one the same colour, as I am after a couple of panels.

You could try themasterlocksmith.com for a new key. They do a great postal refurb service and I think they do new keys as well.

Welcome!

Regarding the bluetooth setup, I am an advocate of the Amazon Echo Auto. I have set mine up using the existing aux cable (from a previous owner) that plugs into the back of the business stereo. The Echo is then powered by a piggyback fuse onto a live with ignition slot. Mine is Velcro'ed behind the access panel below the heater controls (just pops off and on).

It automatically connects to my phone (if you have the Amazon Auto app) when I turn the ignition on. Because of where I've put it though, the voice recognition is not that great, but I can use my phone's Google Assistant instead for voice commands (rare).

Let me know if you want more details/photos. :D
