Thought I'd get myself a nice practical economical daily

Well it's practical in the fact it's an estate at least..

1.8 petrol turbo mapped to 220bhp in 'brilliant yellow' with full S4 kit and interior, on coilovers and rs4 alloys

See how long this one lasts before the 24 mpg pisses me off

Well I don't think THAT will fit in my garage on the lift with the door down!

And stop buying "slammed" stuff, you know it's a pain!!

Mike

Suits you sir!

At least you won't lose it in a car park!

Only 24 mpg doesn't sound good though - I had a Seat Leon Cupra (same engine but in standard 180 bhp form) and that did 30 mpg! Or is it how you use it.......?

Haha that's true! Yeah I think this the earlier Abu engine which is only 150 bhp in standard form. Tbh it doesn't set your pants on fire the turbo lag is shocking haha it does do 35 mpg on a run...

My Cupra was an X-plate, so pretty early - but it felt so much quicker than the C280 Merc it replaced!

That 1.8 20 valve engine was used in nearly every VAG model, but I think one of the main differences was the 180 bhp versions had an intercooler whereas the 150 bhp ones didn't. But I believe they can take massive upgrades - maybe watch this thread!

35 mpg is good - my 1980 Golf 1.3 couldn't do that as an average! :(

I'm looking forward to the updates!

Ahh okay it's got a little intercooler in the passenger front bumper area I noticed it today when changing the tie rod... Even so it's very lack lustre in performance even compared to say your 325ti for example. Meh it'll do for a few weeks  first thing to do is give it a dam good clean it's absolutely minging!

There was a build thread for it on edition 38 from a guy called mugly so it's had a few quid spent on it but the last owner for the past 12 months has defo let it go

I had a v reg Octavia with the same engine blew it up with an impromptu turbo upgrade

Love the colour

I had a Millennium Puma in 'slap your face yellow' did almost 200K miles in it and I still miss it.

Only your special ones make it onto the forum - thanks for sharing Jamie :D

p.s. just found the perfect cleaning kit for it: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=101895

It's a special kind of car alright it's getting more comments than my z4 at the moment

Hhm, I wonder if the colour has anything to do with that?

If it's mapped to 220 bhp I would have thought it ought to go OK, or maybe another map is required!

What happened to the zillion and one E46's?!
If anyone hits you in that they've got no excuse.
I remember my 2 TT's 225 with the 1.8t engine in, I prefered it to the 3.2 V6. Audi sent me a 3.2 on demo back in the day and the V6 sounded better but the 1.8T just went so much better, more torque low down etc, especially when remapped. Probably wasn't much better on fuel though, I remember when I replaced it with a 3.4 Boxster. It got near as dam it the same MPG!

Haha I don't know! Just guess that fancied a change!

Oh totally agree the v6 tt was a bit of a let down too, very nose heavy. Not a fan of big lazy v6s

If buying a daily it's always worth looking at 'off the wall' colours as you can get a real bargain . I have the same engine in my Octavia VRS but just rated at the standard BHP (180) . To be honest for me it's getting close to the maximum for a FWD of that age.

Yeah know what you mean! It seems to handle like a blancmange
