New Steering Wheel

New Car, new steering wheel.... And an issue I haven't faced for about 11 years (since the last new one).

The Steering Wheel is currently very matt / slippy. I physically want to lick my hands to get a proper grip on it (not really recommended). I know that in time it will absorb the oils from my hands and become much more tactile, but is there a trick to speed this process up ? Using leather cream for example to get some moisture / oils into it..?

Thoughts / experience appreciated.

Wow - usually people WANT the OEM feel as generally THAT makes it feel more tactile!
Never have i felt a NEW steeling wheel and it to be slippy

What's the chance that your dealer has used a 'polish' on the wheel? Mine was & still is providing the right level of grip I would expect to get

I have just spent a fair bit replacing a worn/shiny/grippy wheel for a nearly new one. I am open to offers for the old one... :)

It's not the matt finish I'm concerned with. Agreed that's far better than shiny. It's the lack of tactile grip (without applying pressure) that isn't ideal. This is very hard to describe, but the wheel doesn't have the feel of new almost "sticky" leather.

It is possible that the detail put Gtechniq L1 on the wheel. I'm checking with the detailer regarding this. Good call.

Tonight I will almost certainly try cleaning the wheel with some leather cream to get some moisture into it and potentially remove anything that may be sitting on the surface. Seems from your comments that it should feel beautiful from the off, although I'm sure I've had this on new cars before.
