New roundels

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to replace all of my roundels does anyone know the correct sizes or where would tell me?

I want

The front
Back
Both side repeaters
all 4 wheels
and steering wheel?

I've been quoted £125 the set but that seems a lot as it's only the sides more than most other kits for half the price (although they are all direct fit).

I have had the measuring tape out but as we are talking 1-2mm in it I'd rather the correct sizes rather than trusting my measuring skills ;)

Don't get them from BMW - they cost a FORTUNE.

I bought a full set for my old E46 'vert a couple of years ago, from eBay.

Like below is to the DIY replacement on the old forum I was on:

Hope that helps, the quality of the roundels was BETTER than the OEM ones in my opinion, cast from the same moulds with the same markings on the back etc.

Bizzarely, logging back on there to get that link, the new owner of my car had sent me a message to ask about the steering wheel roundel that I had left on the car (was too stuck on to remove).

Very weird... ...felt a LOT like an ex-GF's new BF contacting you to ask something intimate about her... :|

A bloke on ebay told me £95 for the lot,

which is a lot just for badges,

If he had £50 i would of thought that was expensive but still paid lol

I might pull all my badges off before i measure them then order some on ebay
 
One point about Psy's post above, and the link - the bonnet badge on the Z is held on by two self tapping nuts attached to long lugs on the back of the badge. To get to them you need to take the grills off :thumbsup:

£125 for a full set doesn't sound too bad - the guy I got my ones (c/fibre) from charged :

£13 for the boot badge
£13 each for the side repeaters - same as the boot so needed the lugs taken off. £25 each for OEM fitting ones with locating holes.
£25 for the bonnet badge, OEM fittings with long lugs to attach screws to (£13 for the cheaper version with short lugs, not quite small enough, and requiring dremmeled at the edges to fit)

That all cost me £64 for the badges, the I paid £20 for the wheel caps off some random on eBay - not a perfect fit, a little loose, so needed some dabs of silicone adhesive on the lugs / round the edge to stay on. Total £84. If I had maxed out on the OEM-like ones then it would have cost me £88 for the badges. When I asked him for a quote for all OEM-like including wheel caps it was £140... Hence why I got the wheel caps separately. They are very, very good quality though.
 
New genuine BMW alloy wheel centre caps in the new chrome style on flea bay for £34 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180707594223?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 It sounds like a good price, but let you be the judge :)

I replaced mine with ebay carbon fibre jobbies from china for £55 for all badges, inc the steering wheel.

The bonnet one needed fettling to fit though.

Yeah it was Ian who quoted £125 for the set of the ones I wanted, sure they are good but seems a bit steep all the same.

I don't think he means that you have to separate the originals - he or his supplier does, to install the c/f version of the roundel (or whatever variant).

He's right about the sizes - whilst standard 82mm can be used on the boot and the indicators (if you chop the lugs off on the latter), the bonnet emblem is totally unique at 70mm IIRC. eBay sellers will try to sell you 73mm for the bonnet sometimes, but the lugs are not long enough and the sides need dremmelled to fit. The OEM side repeater badges are also unique for the e85/86 as they have locating holes for lugs on the indicator itself.

so for the side repeater badges, you can just buy 2 boot badges and cut the lugs off and stick them on?

yes. they are 82mm - sides and boot.
Bonnet is 73mm I think. 45mm for the steering wheel.

As Bing says the bonnet is actually 70mm, but the 73mm found on other BMW's can fit with a bit of fettling!

Carefully, with a sharp craft knife or Stanley blade. They are held on with double-sided sticky tape.

The fettling required for the front roundel involves dremmeling the edges a little, and it never quite sits flush because the back is not moulded correctly. If you get the 70mm one from Ian then it fits perfectly and the lugs are long enough to use the self threading nuts to hold it on :thumbsup:

My (lack of) powers of observation astound me! I got the chrome style a while back when I relegated my badly kerbed 108s to winter use and purchased new summer wheels. I only now noticed the difference! :oops:
