Im picking up my e89 soon but need to ask you guys a question.
The roof works fine, but when I put it down, it stops when the boot lid is still up. You have to press the button again to complete the cycle.
I'm assuming this isn't how it's supposed to work. the salesman says that's just how it works.
Any replies would be appreciated.

It’s usually a ‘sticky’ micro switch that causes the issue..it’s definitely not how it’s supposed to work…a code reader on it will highlight the issue..if it is the micro switch relatively easy to get it fixed..lots of info here

With a salesman like that what else is he hiding?
It’s only £6k for a 3 litre on just over 100,000 miles. A few cosmetic touches and I think it’ll be fine.

Have you checked if it opens from the key fob? If it doesn’t then that could indicate a failing battery, you can check the battery manufacturer date by looking on the negative terminal, it should have week/year stamped on it, if it’s the original then it will be on it’s last legs.

If the roof stops before it completes the cycle, which it is doing, it should bong and flash the roof light in red.
If it isn't and just stopping to carry on when the button is pressed again, there could be a more serious fault somewhere.

Probably a broken wire or microswitch. Intermittent now, but will fail soon with the roof stuck midway. Get a code reader, your going to need one with BMW's. Bimmergeeks ProTool will work from an android phone. Or get a standalone like the Foxwell 530. Cost is in the range of $150, but that is what the dealer or shop is going to charge to hook up their scanner.

Is this salesman coming as a recommendation then you need to head to that forum discussion

You mean to tell me the earth isn’t flat?

Hey guys,
This is typically issued by one or two rusty hallsensors on the right coupling ram. There will be a gong while the roof is moving, but no fault code get's stored.

Search in this forum for a replacement with a cheaper E88 part. Keep care on the zip tie around the ram, it's important to get replaced.

Sorry I posted a question on the how to page. Not very good at this forum stuff. It’s still doing the same after changing the hall sensors. I think it’s the front one. Going to trace the wires and see what I can see. I hope it’s not the ram.
