Centre console storage trim

Hi All,

Only had my Z4 2 weeks, finally getting a bit of time to give it a going over. Couple of queries:

Someone has had some of the trim off of my centre storage console before & broken the trim.
The button for the manual roof release is just loose with no springs, all of the plastic clips to hold the springs and to clip it into the car are broken, plus only 1 screw at the bottom. The storage door opened on 1st few uses but when i explored what the top button did it all pinged apart. There's 1 potentially ok option on ebay but I'm begrudging £60 for a piece of plastic. Any options to resolve this other than buy another trim?

There's a loose cable, is this part of the roof opening mechanism? Should this be under more tension? Thankfully my roof motor works & is relocated so hopefully I wont need the manual roof release but good to know if its broken.

Is this what the inside of this storage cubby is meant to look like? The bottom is where the CD changer would go, I assume the loose cables would be for that if fitted? Seems odd it's bare metal, perhaps had a cd changer which has been removed?
My light is loose & actually doesn't appear to work. Although having removed the trim & left it off the car for a few days with the storage door open, I learnt that leaving this open will be a battery drain from the light even if not working as the car was completely dead this morning!

Also, my scuttle panel has perished & is breaking up. Can see there's some second hand on ebay so will replace it, but how important is this to sort? Water will be able to get down under it currently, is that going to cause problems or is this just a cosmetic thing to fix as & when?

Any advice on this lot will be gratefully received!

Hi. Can't help too much other than yes, that is where the multichanger sat. As for the scuttle, I wouldn't leave it over winter in that condition. It should be okay (the drains in each corner are far more important), but there a lot of electrics at the bulkhead end of the engine bay.

Hope you're enjoying the car

Can you fix the centre trim

No- I’ve tried and the plastic integrity of any fix doesn’t last

Put a wanted ad up for both but the console parts are expensive due to demand

The scuttle piece does stop some water ingress by directing it to the drain channels but what is more important is taking it off to inspect what’s underneath- clean that area out before it takes root

The bottom compartment is where the cd changer should go. You would have had a storage insert in there. So it definitely looks like the CDC has been removed. The middle section would house the dvd drive if you had sat nav.
Look on real oem for the bits in your car and any inserts.

Is it a pre facelift? My facelift E85 doesn’t have anything for a manual release in the top section iirc.

Thanks all.

I'll get the scuttle off then and have a look, hopefully not too bad, just not sure how long it's been like that.

Had a feeling wouldn't be able to repair the console trim wouldn't be possible, good shout on posting a wanted ad.

Yes it's pre facelift, 2003. I thought top button/switch was a manual roof release?
