Tried the throttle reset and it seems much better.. Still not completely convinced its as it should be.
Time will tell..

Thanks all..

Have you run some of that bg44k through the system as suggested as well ? I'm considering doing it to mine, just for maintenance sake...

I haven't Bing but have seen posts regarding this - time to get some I think !

I used BG 44K in both my Z4 and Series 1 a month ago and would recommend it. I got it from these people who offer a money back guarantee if you are not happy with it.

Just to give an update for others with similar issues....

I finally got my local independent to reflash the DME (ECU) with the latest software and......boom !! It's a completely different car... :)
All of the hesitation has gone, it drives much smoother, even passengers have noticed if feels much better.

Awesome !!

Hi, webrits: how much did the re-flash cost? Can any garage do this? I'm having the exact same problems with my coupe. I am getting the P135B error (knock sensor), so I'm not sure if my knock sensors need replacing or if it is something else. My problems seemed to start one tank after starting to use V-power.

The re flash cost about £60 if I remember correctly.
I doubt any garage could do it but a reputable bmw specialist should be able to. Obviously they must have access to the later ecu software etc.

Something else just occurred to me... thoughts from everyone please!

About a month ago the water pump went whilst I was on the motorway and stupidly I drove back home (albeit very slowly and carefully) for the next 10 minutes. The garage replaced the pump (£500!) and said there weren't any signs of engine damage...phew. But could the issues I am facing now (hesitation and stuttering) be attributed to an overheated engine and damaged head? This happened about a month ago now and I would have thought there would be other immediate signs, such as white smoke, unsteady idle etc.
