excellent, which is best for my 2.2?

Ive only just had an oil service but thought i might get some top-up just in case.

Your options are
  • 2x4L Castrol Edge 5w-30 for Modern Engines (LL04) - £84.93 including delivery
  • 2x4L Castrol Edge 0w-30 for Modern Engines (LL01) - £84.93 including delivery
  • 2x4L Castrol Edge Sport 0w-40 (LL04) - £61.33 including delivery

If you buy the recommended 'service pack' instead (just store or chuck the included filter):
  • 2x4L Castrol Edge 5w-30 for Modern Engines (LL04) - £72.54 including delivery

Not sure if either of your cars require LL04 or LL01 though - you'll have to check your manuals to see, but I don't know whether LL04 can be used instead of LL01.

You can always contact BMW to double-check.

Eh, the service pack is cheaper by £12, and has a filter with it too!?

Still looks pretty steep. BMW charge about the same for their oil anyway (that said you'll have enough for top-up between services left over with 2 x 4l)

Dave

I do interim oil services every 5,000-6,000 miles, so just buy the service kit and keep the rest in 1L top-up bottles. Unfortunately/fortunately the Z4 doesn't use oil at the rate my e34 M5 did - M5 could use 1L/1000 miles, the Z4 uses less than 1L every 6,000 miles.

If I knew the Castrol Edge Sport 0w40 was definitely suitable for the non-M cars, then I'd say go for that as it's £20 cheaper than the others, and £10 cheaper than the service pack. I'm not however in a position to confirm or deny the suitability.

It's much easier for the Z4Ms as there's only one BMW/Castrol oil to chose, and that's £72.54 including delivery for 8 litres of 'Castrol EDGE 10W-60 for special BMW M-Series engines' - pity you can't take advantage of Opie's 'specialbmw' code with it.

I forgot to say that those oils I mentioned were just the special Castrol ones for BMWs. If you go to another oil brand then you can get the same BMW spec for half the price - i.e. the Fuchs Supersyn for £46.10 for 2x4 litres incl. delivery.

My local Stealer only asks £6.50 a litre of either of the LL04 Castrols. I have to take a container but that makes him a Lover, not a Stealer!

Sounds like a bargain - you'll have to offer it as a service to members

I have no problem with that.

PM me for details - remember you have to collect (Huntingdon) and supply your own container.

This now includes the 10w60 for ///M engines.

Service pack (2x4 litres plus filter) is now £62.86 including delivery, compared to £71.21 for 2x4 litres.

Code is CASTROL79
