Hi all,
I have joined as my wife and I are interested in purchasing a Z4.
There seem to be a couple on the board so I am going to visit there shortly.
We are both bikers but don't like the winter with our old bones. So a Z4 may be the antidote in winter.
The Wye Valley area is where we live. Lovely scenery, terrible road surfaces. Best roads are north of Abergavenny and up into Powys.

I do already own a BMW that will out accelerate a Z4. It's a R1200R :)

Quick question while I'm here. Do all M54 2.2 drink oil or is that an exaggeration?

I hope you find what you are looking for. All BMW engines seem to go through a bit of oil. If excessive it can be due to a CCV problem. I would suggest a weekly check of oil and anti-freeze when you get a Z4 https://classicsworld.co.uk/guides/bmw-z4-e84-buyers-guide/

Older M54 engines can use a bit of oil but that's often because of leaks from the cam-cover gasket and/or oil filter housing.

I wouldn't rule out 2.5i or 3.0i models as all three use the same engine, just in different sizes, so running costs are pretty much the same. If you do many longer trips the 3 litres have a 6 speed gearbox.

Anyway good luck finding the right one.

M54s have a reputation for being a bit leaky, but they don’t burn oil if in good condition. As for any engine, avoid smokers.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I have a 2.2 and it doesn’t go through oil. Don’t be put off by the engine size either, the 2.2 is a great revvy and smooth engine and great around our Devon roads. l love it
