New Member... re-named - Arrived & Drived (was deposit paid)

Hi everyone, great to find this forum.

I have just placed a deposit on a zed 2008 3.0 Si Sport Coupe. Sapphire Black and just over 20,000 miles. Can't wait - about a week until ready / everything in place.

I'm buying it from a fair way off from home (approved BMW from BMW dealership) and wondering on your thoughts here:

I would rather take delivery. i.e. it is brought to me rather than driving it back through a strange city, as I know how 'odd' a new purchase can be until you get into your comfort zone.

I am no noob when it comes to performance cars, having owned a Lotus Esprit Turbo and a MK11 Elise. amongst others.

However, this experience has filled me with caution for picking up my new pride and joy, especially at this time of year. Am I just being a wuss? LOL

Ideally I would rather hold onto my daily driver whilst it is insured/taxed/mot'd incase we get snow/ice - (at least whilst I get used to the response of the pedals! After all 265 horses might be a handful.) although the dealership seem happy to take it of my hands and therefore avoid delivering the zed...

Your thoughts welcome - even if you do call me a wuss - or am I being sensible? Thanks!

Happy for you mate  sure you won't be disappointed with Z4c . i love mine & that's after 2 911's & a 6 series :)
Collection day is a personal thing but i've travelled far & wide in the past ( 275miles home is the furthest in aircooled 911 ) & for me the drive home is always part of the new car pleasure .
Look forward to your pics however you do it

Not if we have 6" of snow and ice :o ... I'd be sure to agree with you if it was a nice sunny May day :)

But yea, perhaps got to man-up on this :driving:

You will be ok the horses can be lively but don't press the sport button and you will be ok. They are very easy to drive you will be all good. Welcome nice choice look forward to seeing some pictures.

Hi and welcome. Congrats on your purchase, nice choice. I would pick it up from the dealer and enjoy the drive home. :driving:

Welcome to the forum, bet you can't wait :D

I assume you have test-driven it ? If not then you may want a pootle round the block before actually surrendering your hard-earned...

Personally I'd go get it. Nothing like an early start, a few train changes and the final walk or taxi to the dealer to build a sense of anticipation, then finally geting the drive home, all on your own, grinning inanely :D

It is 265 horses, but not uncontrollable by any means, just don't be tempted to poke it on a damp roundabout, leave all the driver aids switched on and you'll be fine. The sport button sharpens up the throttle, which could provide unexpected excitement, but it doesn't add any more power. You'll be fine

Hello and welcome, congratulations on buying the best variant of zed (Sport Coupe).

I would agree with you, until you are comfortable why take a chance? Having said that I picked mine up and went for a jolly straight away and as long as you're careful you should be ok.

Who knows with the weather but all the best all the same .. oh and pics!!

Hi and welcome - I came from an Elise myself, collected mine just before Xmas and then drove 200 miles. You won't have any problems but I'm sure there would be no end of volunteers to collect for you if you want! :D

Welcome to the forum - you planning on picking it up now? Agree that first drive is something special....

Tapatalking...

In the end my hand has been somewhat forced to take delivery... nothing much offered for my current daily driver, so getting there would be a problem. (single dude...so no lifts for the 150 mile round trip...mates are mates LOL) and can't spare the time for a train hike...well, I live in the Lincolnshire sticks, so even getting to a train would be an issue!

So delivery it is.

Insurance in place. Private plate on hold. Deposit paid...make full payment tomorrow...

Here's a laugh:

I have the daily shed... 12 years no claims... so I rang them tonight to ask for the no claims cert for my new insurer. Long story short... I said I would like to continue to drive the shed until the weather improves (another month perhaps as it is taxed and MOT'D 'till March). They said my no claim goes to my new car and therefore I will have no 'no claims' available for the shed. They quoted me £1000 for two months! LOL. They started with "the first direct debit will be £492"... after which I fell about laughing
Needless to say, I declined. :tumbleweed:

Edited to add...my insurance for the zed is £209 fully comp, protected no claims...for the year... :P

£209 :o

Wow. I have 10 years NCB and my insurance is 3 times that - good effort. I need to find a better postcode area to live in...

Insurance: You don't have to be posh to be....

WOW - the car has arrived. Fecking Awesome :)

Now to figure out the best seat position, LOL... how do you know where the bonnet (hood for our US cousins) ends? It is very 'snug'.

But I am speechless at this BMW approved motor. Mind, I should expect nothing less at 20,000 miles...but they put new boots on it, full MOT, sevice check and tax. Delivery free.

Now to wait for the bloody weather to improve. I want to drive.

Advice on parking though...eeeeeek!
