New member plus performance question

Hello to all on here. Recently got a 2.5 se manual in need of some improvement over the winter. Silver with 107s and black interior, runs nicely but needs help cosmetically. Was looking for an MX5, but what’s not to like about a BMW for less ! Some years ago I had a Z3 3.0 Sport, but it was an auto and just didn’t seem right with the slush box so didn’t keep it long even though it was a nice car. Thought it was time for another soft top. Compared to the Z3 performance only seems adequate. Comes alive after 5k revs, is that normal or should I be checking out the Vanos and other associated parts?

It should be torquey across the Rev range, not peaky - worn vanos seals can cause a loss of low end power.

Quite a big difference between the 2.5 & the 3.0 engine TBH - 2.5 is very much in the 'normal car' territory with regard to acceleration / engine performance.

You have something like 190bhp with a 5 speed box Vs 230-260 bhp with a 6 speed - it's quite the change.

Not really any engine performance tweaks to do to this engine that would make a huge difference, but you might like the change in feeling from fitting a throttle box (just plugs in to the accelerator pedal & tweaks the throttle input).

Won't change the power, but will make it feel much stronger. Very cheap on ali express (something like £30) - risk free - does not change any of the engine parameters, it's not a remap.

Useful info, but not for the OP who was last on here Jan 23. ;)
