Hi all! Some of you may remember me (or my avatar perhaps) from a while back. I registered here about a year ago or something and asked a few questions about Z4s with the prospect of buying one. Soon after i decided i'd look for something more sensible instead and started looking at various hot hatches but then when the credit crunch really got on and the pound crashed through the floor i thought that a bargain such as a used Z4 M was too good to pass. So in February i flew in to the UK to see friends and family and find a car. Which i did. :D

It's a 56 Z4 M Coupe with Imola red leather, hi-fi professional DSP, sat nav (which doesnt work in Cyprus..), electric mirrors, CD changer, sun protection glass and the obligatory rear PDC sensors.

The car arrived in Cyprus a few days ago on the 15th and i picked it up 2 days later. So far i am loving the performance and lovely engine note. Already been on a couple of spirited drives (nothing too crazy though as i still dont know the car that well) and i am greatly impressed by it's capabilities. It does like a drink though doesnt it? It's 7pm here now and i filled it up yesterday lunchtime and already it's half gone! Of course i did go on a 45 minute "stroll" this morning before work..

Anyway long story short, so far i am loving it.

Beautiful car.. I wish someone would buy me and take me to the sun!

About the SatNav, I'm surprised it doesn't work in Cyprus although I guess you're quite far over. Does BMW sell any other cars with Nav over there? e46 3 series perhaps?

I dont believe they do. I am sure the device itself works fine, i have a smartphone with GPS in it for example and that works normally, it's just that BMW doesnt have maps for us. The DVD with my car certainly doesnt. Not much bothered really. :P

Looks lovely :)

Cool to see it on UK plates over there...how does registering it work? can you drive it on UK plates for a while? Is it Cyprus where you have punitive taxes based on engine size or something?

My goodness, beautiful pictures. Reminds me of Greece. I envy you. :) I don't think you could find a more sensible car for the price. Congratulations.

Registering it is quite complex but the guy who arranged the shipping for me has a customs officer that he works with and he's taking care of all the red tape for me (for a nominal fee of course...). At the moment I can drive the car for 10 days with these British plates until the proper forms are completed and so on before i have to register it. If i was a British, or any other European country's citizen and i was visiting Cyprus i could drive the car on foreign plates for up to 6 months before having to register it and if i was moving permanently to Cyprus i could register it without having to pay any duty at all.

But alas im not a foreigner and so i have to pay a s***load of registration tax which is calculated according to the engine capacity, CO2 emmisions and age of the car. Let's jut put it this way. With the amount of tax i will pay i could almost buy another Z4 M in the UK! I know it seems a lot but when you see that 2002 E46 M3's go for 37,000 euros in Cyprus and 2007 E92 M3's go for 115,000 then i think i'm getting a pretty decent deal.

And thank you all for the warm welcome! :D

Serious outlay but then it is a serious car! Maybe we should stop moaning about how hard things are for us in the UK after seeing the prices in Cyprus...

Im telling you though instead of trying to sell your steeply depreciated high-end car in the UK you should seriously consider selling it here. No joke.

If we could get it registered for free as per your thing above somehow, that would be a good money spinner..

are you RHD there too? .. and what would, say, a Mini Cooper 06 Convertible go for there?

καλως ηρθες πελε μου πολλαν ομορφο αμαξι καλες βολτες !!!!!!!!!!!!!! welcome to our community μπορεις να γραφτεις και στο http://www.bmw-motorsport.gr/ see you around mate

Ευχαριστώ φιλαράκι! It's good to be here. :D I'll definitely check that site out later.

Andy, you dont pay any duties only if you are "transfering your normal residence" in Cyprus. More details here if you are interested http://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/customs/Customs.nsf/All/8164079B0D1D7A48C22572CF002022C9?OpenDocument To be honest i dont really know how much a Mini would go for but i'm guessing it's not much more expensive than the UK. New one's go for around 24,000 Euros though.

The big money is on luxury or hi-end sports cars with more than 2.5lt engines. For comparison a new 350Z while relatively affordable in the UK retails for about 90,000 Euros... Which is why i've only ever seen two on the road and im guessing they were UK imports both.
