Hi all,

Just signed up and looking to make the switch from my R56 Cooper S to an E85 2.5is or 3.0i/is in the coming weeks.

Always had hatches, also have a Clio 182 and have a couple of bikes which, to be honest, don’t get a lot of use these days. A drive in a mate’s 2.5 at the weekend has convinced me I’m missing out and need to make the switch ASAP.

Look forward to joining you all very soon ☺️

Hi and welcome aboard.

Do a bit of research as there 2.5 litre and 3 litre models in both the pre-facelift and facelift E85s but the facelifts got a later generation of engine that was slightly more powerful and higher-revving, although both are pretty bulletproof.

Good luck finding the right one.

Hi and welcome aboard

Thanks 🙏🏻

I’ve definitely been in the ‘intensive research’ phase over the last week 🤣 Think I’m about there now, in terms of what was offered and what my wants/needs are.

Seems this is the place to buy from tbh, some nice cars knocking about at the moment.

Mate’s is a standard 2.5i N52 (so 177bhp?) - Felt a little bit flat to me, but once up to speed the handling dynamics were lovely.

Actively looking, hopefully drop on on sooner rather than later.

Cheers!
Ian

I think that model was intended as a replacement for the pre-facelift 2.2i.

Pre-facelifts had the M54 engine as a 170bhp 2.2, 192 bhp 2.5 or 231bhp 3 litre, facelifts had the N52 as a 177bhp 2.5i, 218bhp 2.5Si or 265bhp 3.0Si.

The downside is the N52s had an electric water pump that inevitably dies at some point and a replacement costs £250 or more, but facelift Sport models had the desirable M-Sport seats as standard that are rare in pre-facelifts as they were an option on those.

Standard spec in all of them was a bit miserly so bear that in mind as most E85 owners reckon heated seats are essential, and things like Bi-Xenons, rear parking sensors and cruise were all options.

Happy hunting!

Iain.

Makes sense, thanks Iain ☺️

Sports and heated seats are on my must have list for sure. Having driven without a deflector, think this one is a must have too 😅 otherwise I’m fairly easy - Seems stuff like Cruise can be retrofitted easily enough.

Looking forward to getting a deal done!

Cheers
Ian

Welcome
Biker myself and had only got back in to a car in late May last year after a 2.5 year absence from owning a car.
I biked everywhere and when I couldn’t I just used the wife’s car.
Bought an Aygo last year and loved it but I also had an itch for RWD and a nice straight 6 up front.
So my E86 was the answer.
I still have my bike and the Aygo.
Good luck with your car search. I’m sure you will love it.

Thanks ☺️ I’m the opposite way - Haven’t ridden the bikes for a couple of years now, other things seem to keep getting in the way and demanding my attention elsewhere.

Was looking for something fun, but more practical than a 200bhp backpack like a Caterham and something I can use every day without my patience wearing thin. Also something a bit different, always owned 4cyl so fancied a six.

Seems I’ve found something that ticks all the boxes!

I’m actually off to pick one up today 🥳 So excited and looking forward to getting more involved on here!

It’s an E85 3.0si Manual. Can’t wait!

Lovely, that's as good as an E85 gets without getting into Alpina or M territory.

Thanks ☺️

Car collected yesterday, I’m so happy with it! So nice to drive, I’m amazed by the flexibility of the engine, even at 1800-2000rpm in higher gears in traffic, it seems perfectly happy and picks up fine with ‘normal’ traffic. But that top end and the soundtrack is addictive!

Welcombe and enjoy looks a nice motor

Thanks ☺️ Yes it’s been well cared for and I’ll be doing the same. Couldn’t be happier with it.

Just need to find a couple of good Independents in the Midlands now.

Hello there

New member although I’ve had my Black E89 23i manual for about 2 years now - I’m based in Birmingham (B17)…

I’ve got to have some bits done to her soon (new NSF shock and rear coils) and also would like the roof serviced / sorted at some point soon too…

So any advice from those who are handy with a spanner is appreciated 🤣🤣🤣
