New member: Hi, bought an E85 3.0i

Just picked up an immaculate 75k mile E85 3.0i auto this morning and so impressed. It drives so nice and sounds amazing - although a bit droney on the motorway as looks like it’s had the back box delete. Sounds very nice and burbles when you come off the throttle though!

Is it hard to reinstate the back box and anything else I should be doing for a new (well new to me) car? I know about checking and draining the roof motor location but anything else?

Thanks.

Relocating the roof motor into the boot

What’s your location and someone on here will point you in the direction of the closest member on here that can do this for you at a sensible price

Thanks, I’m in Sevenoaks, Kent. Should be okay to relocate it myself as I’m fairly handy with that sort of thing. Anything else I should be checking though.

Cheers.

Check the expansion tank. It’s a weak spot. If it looks old just replace it and as yours is an auto be sure to buy the auto thermostat that sits under it which will disintegrate when you take it off!

Check the brake pipes especially across the back axle

I would change the vanos seals (plenty of write ups on that) as you’ll see such a difference doing it. Valve cover gasket you can do at the same time which will weep oil onto the exhaust

Disa valve- get it off and check there is no play in the pin

Door membranes- they unstick and allow water in to the floors damaging the airbag modules and other electrics

Stuart, you are a star. Thank you so much. I will definitely do all of those as looking to do the north coast 500 later this year and hopefully some other road trips into Europe if it proves reliable enough. Very impressed with it so far.

Call in on the way up matey. Lincoln is a nice place for a cuppa!

Hi and congratulations on becoming a Z4 owner.

Don't be surprised if you get asked to post photos of it!

Cheers all for the warm welcome. Got a photo picking it up from the dealer. Don’t know if any former keepers are on here but be good to know a bit about it.
