You are right to be cautious and cynical... but not that much.

You can critically appraise reviews as you read them and hopefully get an insight into whether they are fake or not. You can then come on places like here and get feedback from people you can trust.

My dealings with Heel & Toe motors have been good to excellent so far. I'll only know how good they really are if something goes wrong I guess. Fingers crossed.

I used to carry mine around in the glovebox, Ancel BM700, easily plugged in to see faults that don't trigger a warning light. The Z4 has a very complex electrical system, 31 modules, so you do need a scanner to check what is going wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1xggdQA2sE

Good to know you enjoyed a long drive home, even on the M25!

I was surprised how economical they are for the performance you get after I bought my first one. Mine averaged about 33mpg over the 5 years I had them. :D

If you do manage to design an improved cup-holder I'm sure quite a few of us would be interested in having them - one of mine broke a couple of years ago.

A forum member compiled a detailed database of 3.0Si and M models and based on that it looks like only 12 Titan Silver manual Coupes with Estoril Blue Bi-Colour seats and brushed aluminium trim came to the UK.

Here's a link if you fancy whiling away some time:- http://perso.numericable.fr/tonyz4c/index30si.html

Car dealers, I think, are often happy to spend a bit extra prepping a car than risk saving £300 pre-sale, then having to spend the £300 three months later, plus pay the cost of recovering the car from 60 miles away and returning it to the customer, plus the hassle of dealing with it, plus the risk of less good word of mouth.
Absolute rubbish. That is NOT the way the car trade (IME) works in the modern era.
The car trade has nearly as bad a reputation as builders. It's been like that for decades. They try and 'look good' from reviews but they don't really care.
They buy them in and sell them for as much profit as they can, hoping there is no come-back. If there is, they generally try their best to wriggle out of any responsibility, or point people to the (waste of time) 3rd party warranties that most include as a nod to the 'peace of mind' nonsense. There is no such thing as 'prepping a car for sale' anymore. Unless you include putting the cheapest tyres on they can find to make it roadworthy if needed and giving it a wash.

Oh and BTW, I have owned a business for 33 years. I have never had a genuine complaint, as I care about what I do. I have never met a car salesman who cares about the cars they sell; ever.

Going from my own experience I have come across some great dealers and bad ones.

Glad the OP seems to have a good one

That seems more representative.

Pondew... sorry you have had such a bad experience.

I've had the (according to the forum in general) dreaded ABS, TCS and Handbrake warning lights come on this morning along with a nice beep!!!

This looks like a common issue relating to reluctor rings and ABS units! I did somehow manage to park up last night without putting on the handbrake :headbang: Good job it was on a reasonably level drive! I'll see if they are back on later when I drive home.

May you enjoy many happy trouble-free miles! Get some form of code reader for the car. Make sure it is a model-specific one. Many members seem to go for the Creator+410

I currently use an app called car scanner and a cheap ELM327 for other newer cars. It allows me to read codes and clear them as well as monitor various outputs. I'll give it a go on this one when I can find the damn thing! Is there much advantage to a model specific one like those that you mentioned?
You can carry the reader in your glove box so when you get a problem it will tell you what is wrong. The electronics in a BMW are very complicated! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Creator-Battery-Registration-Scanner-Diagnostic/dp/B0BZRDWHS5/ref=sr_1_5_sspa?crid=2DC3DOYAIHLHN&keywords=creator+410&qid=1739192681&sprefix=creator+410%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-5-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1

Two days! I rest my case about dealers and their lack of care when selling used cars.

BTW, my inputs in this thread are not intended to be personal to you! I just HATE car dealers nearly as much as I HATE estate agents. :)

Sorry an ABS light coming on after two days of owner ship does not prove anything. Now if the op says he speaks to the dealer and they want nothing to do with it then you would have a point

Agreed. Ideally a dealer would be incredibly careful to ensure as much as possible is checked and resolved before sale, but (1) it is a 16 year old car, or older, and there will always be things go wrong, and (2) as you say, it is ALL about how issues are dealt with.

 I'm generally not keen on them either. The warnings have not been back since so I'm hoping all is ok. I managed to get the Bluetooth hooked up so I can make and receive calls now. Only required me to dismantle the entire back end interior to get the passkey, but we got there in the end.
