New Member...Almost

:driving: Hi all.
I am almost a Z4 owner. Just waiting for the end of the month when I will be trading in my old Saab 9/3 flying machine (with uprated turbo) for a 2004 2.5l silver Z4 with red leather interior and sports seats...so obviously pictures to follow. My perhaps warped logic suggests that the Z4 will not be more expensive to run...Saab spares cost an arm and a leg, and I am currently returning about 26 MPG.
I do not like the idea of runflats and when the present tyres reach their limit (at present they are about 4mm) I will replace them with standard tyres. To this end I contacted a BMW breakers in Sheffield and ordered a jack, space saver tyre and rim..."all in good condition." Items duly arrived, jack pristine, tyre almost unused, wheel very scabby with layers of flaking rust on the rear face and rim, and pitting on the front. Bugger! I have been done. hope this is not an omen. Undecided whether to remove tyre and try to get wheel sandblasted and refinished or just cut my losses and continue looking.
Has anyone any experience or advice regarding boot racks for a Z4. are they worth the hassle or is it possible to pack enough luggage for 2 with a space aver in the boot?

Final point...I was pleased with Chris Knott insurance. 10 1/2 months to run on my Saab insurance, cost to change over to a Z4 softop 2.5l with on road parking £90.00. I thought this was very reasonable.

Hello and welcome John Duggan aka. The hairy angler.I think the 2.5 will be a lot easier on the pocket regarding running costs.Ditch the runflats when the're knackered and swap to normal tyres. They make an hell of a difference .Why the space saver wheel? Get some slime or tyreweld and a compressor in case of a puncture.

Welcome to the Forum. I previously owned a 2.5 and over 2 years, 10k miles averaged around 30 mpg so you should see an improvement over your Saab. Mine was a weekend toy so only really used for A&B road type thrashes. I'm sure with a few motorway miles thrown in you could improve on that

Check out http://www.boot-bag.com. They are brilliant for when you need extra space. Only takes a couple of minutes to fit and remove. Used mine for the first time when I went to this years Le Mans. Wouldn't have managed to get two people's camping gear in the Zed without it.

Hi ,
I'd keep the boot space and just have an emergency kit.

I have just put Vredestein standard tyres on and keep a jack, wheel chock, tyre gunk, puncture repair kit from my bike which after many years is still unused. Electric Pump an extendable wheel brace and a few other tools.

I was going to get a space saver then reality kicked in.

I have never been stranded on my motorbike (inc European trips) just carried that puncture repair kit.
Also my Z is my summer weekend toy as my daily driver is a Ford Smax my second one and after 5 years and 180,000 miles driving with no spare and just a pump and bottle of Gunk no jack or tools,
I think I may have gone over the top with the Z's kit.

Welcome to the forum hairy angler.

Sounds like you have got yourself a nice Zed (look forward to the pics as and when). :driving:

As others have already mentioned, you will see an improvement on your fuel consumption (provided yours is running properly etc), and the servicing/parts costs are pretty reasonable.

I'm sure the spacesaver wasn't an omen. Just another breakers making money for old rope! :x

All the best.

Pete :)
