New M3 or used M6??

I had always though that the natural successor to my M coupe would be the new M3.
But having read some of the reviews out there I’m not so sure.

A decently specced M3 would be around £55K.
Which makes a 1 or 2 year old M6 at around £50K-£55K seem seriously cheap.
I know the M6 has taken a serious residual blow, but I would expect things to have levelled out at around the £50K mark, making future ownership very attractive.

What do you guys think?

The new M3 is a great looking car and despite the reviews I am sure it would be awesome but...... the M6 is a stunning car.

I would go for the M3 (White with the carbon roof) but them I am only 25 - if I was say 10 years older and needed a bit more space I'd go for the M6!

Just my opinion!

the M6 is just seriously cool.. period.

The fact that you'd have a lot less warranty with it would scare me, but it's definitely the more exciting Q-car for me.

As Andy said the warranty would worry me, but other than that the M6 is a serious tool. As long as you get a well kept one I think it will be fantastic to own.

M6 is way cooler than an M3, IMO. It screams "SPORTSCAR!!!" but in a more sophisticated way. GQ :)

Hmmm, If I had £55K to blow, I'd be thinking about a P-car.

M6 coupe or convertible? Coupe looks cool, convertibe IMHO looks a bit weird.

I wouldn't go for the convertible (it looks rubbish).
M6-coupe (interlagos blue) with tubi-style exhaust plus de-limit
 beastly

Yes, but this is getting silly once you start comparing used cars with new. I mean, you could buy a F360 for the same price as a used M6, or even an early Gallardo.

Silly is irrelevant. Just answer the question!!

Early Gallardo's on the forecourt are still circa £75k.... (I keep a keen eye on them ;) ). That means they'll probably trade at about £65k, so not far off - but I don't think you'll see them at £50-55k just yet.. (and when you do, i'm first in line! :P)

Oh - and as for my vote.... hmmmm... I don't really like the new M3 too much, but I don't like the M6 either.

So, from a head POV, I say M6 - it'll have done it's depreciation, so you'll probably find if you kept both for 3 years, the M6 will have lost the least (and then you can buy a 3 year old M3 and have change..).

It's a no brainer. Take the M6.

In 3 years, the new M3 will be seen everywhere like the E46 M3. The M6 will always be a semi exotic car.

Good suggestion, though in 3 years I would then opt for an E92 M3 CSL, especially if the residuals will be the same as that of the E46 M3 CSL.

M6 Coupe and if warranty issues bother you go for the extended one or an independant provider. If you buy from a dealer you'll get at least a years warranty anyway.
