You really do have OCD Jonny haha

Can't help with your issue but I do think your bonkers as the new one will get old and scratched shortly as well :D

Maybe try a key cutters like timpsons or something :)

Also think stealer needs to program the new key!

Seeking a professional psychiatrist will probably work out cheaper in the long term Jonny

Jonny we are worried about you mate.

I bought a blank key fob for my Mazda, after I lost a key surfing.

I took it to the local Mazda dealer, they arranged for a key cutter to copy my key and coded it at the same time, cost me £140 I think.

With the Zeds key you may well be able to code it your self, as long as it has all the electronics in side. Try your local lock smith for cutting.

The only way to open up a Z4 key is with a modeling knife and patients and you have to glue it back together after wards, which won't suit your OCD.

i want to know this aswel, my key is beaten up and wants replacing, my previous car (Corsa C) i just got a new blank key shell for like £6 and then took it to local locksmith place who cut it to match for £5 then just transferred then internals over(electronic buttons and immobilizer chip) and all was fine...... is this not the case with the Z4 key then?

Thimpson will not cut a BMW key blade as they only cut blanks which they supply but any half decent independent key cutter will do it for less then £10. All you have to do is cut along your old key and put all the electronics in your new case with your freshly cut blade. It doesn't require any programming as you are simply just changing the plastic outer case.

Cutting along the old key case was a two men job which ended with two bloody fingers but managed to get inside it after about an hour!

I wonder if you could wrap a key? You'd need to be pretty skilled at wrapping but it might be worth a try for the cost savings?

this is what i assumed, surely if u kept the insides (electronic switch's/immobilizer) and used a fresh new plastic case with blank key blade you can just get a locksmith to trace/copy the key pattern from the original (exactly what i did with my old key, only problem i see this time is that the blade is cut differently??)

New case/blade cut and delivered for £15 on ebay, lots of 100% feedback, may be worth a try if your chip is good. It might be worth replacing the rechargeable battery whilst it's apart :)

If it helps, cutting the key is a 30 second job. Gently grip the blade in a vice (protect with wood/cloth) and run a junior hacksaw around the crease line. Cut just the plastic, not into the mechanism. Comes in half then. Reseal with a fine bead of black silicone or superglue if you prefer.

Just get a new one from the dealer. £150 job done.

I cut open one of my old keys to change the battery and it looked a bit of a mess once it was glued back together.

Really - mine looks perfect after the job.

Can't imagine why I'd waste £150 on a better looking key. (I understand if I'd lost one)

I'm pretty sure there's a guy on here that will do you a nice new flip key for about £70, he's in London too. You have to take the car so he can code the key.

Jonny,

Call Ben at BM Keys on 07722 255720 as he isn't too far from you and can do the programming and cutting on the spot... Best getting a Bentley Flip Key from him while you are there.

Tell Him I said to call and he'll give you a discount.

Billy

is it worth messaging Ben on here as hes a member?

i only have 1 normal key and the plastic key.

might get him to butcher the plastic key and turn it into a normal remote key and a fresh new case etc, then get him to turn the current beat up normal key into a swanky new Bentley flip key??

does anybody know if thats possible? (assume it would save loads compared to ordering direct from BMW as wouldn't need any "NEW" transponders as would just be paying for 2 new cases and re-using the current 2 transponders i have?)

Yeah send Ben a message via the forum... There's no butchering of any keys for the Bentley flip as it has a new transponder in it already that he will program to your car.

yea ive spoken to him via message and waiting to hear back... has anybody got any pictures/feedback on the Bentley flip key then?

and i thought u cant program a new transponder? read on here that bmw only allowed a certain number of preset transponder codes to be linked with each car and only they have the codes that can be used once?
