New(ish) Z4 Owner

Hi All

Long time lurker of the forum but never made a post.

I have had my E89 Z4 (2012) since August 2020. My first Z4 and my second ever car. It’s been a big upgrade from my 1999 Toyota Yaris purchased at 17 and I have loved every minute of ownership despite the associated running costs.

I bought a lovely 2 Litre model with 45,000 miles on the clock and have since put on another 40,000 miles (yikes!). A few holidays with the girl, weekend drives and my M25 commute has been savage on the mileage!

The original owner had looked after it extremely well, with full service history and only a few scuffs.

I would have liked the 3.0 or 3.5 litre but unfortunately I was much less experienced in cars back then and didn’t know what I was looking for. It was probably a blessing in disguise though with the fuel costs.

In terms of modifications I have not done anything major although I have:-

- Remapped ECU. It now sits at around 260BHP and 400NM torque (if I remember rightly)
- Painted wheels a dark gun metal grey. These need touching up and I think I may go fully black.
- De-badged for a cleaner look.
- Bumper and side panels re-sprayed to remove some pre existing scuffs.
- Small (tasteful) spoiler
- Grey and black BMW badges in all locations
- Added the newer model side indicators and sprayed them black to suit the look.
- Fully black kidney grilles to further de-chrome.
- Smaller arial because I thought the original makes it look like a remote control car.

I am sure there are a few others although I cannot remember them to list.

I have a few issues with the Z4 that I intend on getting your advice on however it seems like the done thing to introduce yourself here first.

I have attached some photos. One was taken recently (note the black side indicators) and the other was last year so not quite so up to date in terms of the look of the vehicle but still a nice photo.

Thanks a lot!
Jacob

Edit: Forgot to mention it is manual transmission.

Welcome aboard, great to see you are getting plenty of use. You've come to the right place for advice and sharing the fun.

Thanks a lot everyone!

I know that ticking mile counter makes me feel sick to the stomach sometimes! I’d still much rather be driving as much as possible than not though.

What do you think a realistic range of these motors is provided I keep up the servicing and regular maintenance?

Welcome to the forum and great looking Z.

Wow 40,000 miles in a couple of years with current petrol prices as they are, that’s some spend :o

If it’s serviced every 5k-8k miles and the cam chain is not an issue should do 200k+ miles no issue..

If it an auto an oil change is now due..
