Not sure how many know about the new ratings, I certainly didn't...

A Z4MC is now Group 45, a Z4MR is 46, while the new M3 is 43 :?

I didnt :o

my car is now Group 44 from 19....

so a new M3 would be cheaper :?

and our Mazda 2 goes from group 5 to 16...

It's all quite bizarre IMO and aimed to get as much dosh out of us as they (Aviva et al) can. However in the UAE where I am at the moment car insurance premium is based purely on car value at 3.5% of the cars current market value. So a new Z4 reasonably specced at £40,000 otr costs £1400 irrespective of age of driver. Now thats OK for you youngsters but for us oldies - OUCH!

imo I think the ratings seem a little misalligned, the 3.0 SE convertible goes from a 19 to 44, while the 3.0 Si SE goes from a 19 to 45, and a 135 convertible (which is faster and more expensive then a 3.0 Z4) goes from 18 to 36.

2.5i goes from 18 > 41 :O

My new 120d M Sport goes 14 > 26

...whys the Z4 well over half the original and the 120d isnt hmmmm

Z4MR in a higher group then MC, guess it is because the MC is cheaper I suspect.

Roadsters are normally higer insurance as they are easier to break into and more chance of vindictive damage, ie roof getting slashed. etc. Therefore a bigger risk to the insurers.

Insurance companies normally use highly sophisticated statistics to support these insurance groups. Its not all about how fast a car is.

I know - but never let an opportunity to "poke" the coupes go by

Went from 18 to 44 on my 2007 2.5Si, now I can see why the hike in this years premium at the beggining of Feb this year. Just another way of fleecing motorists ......

Yeah, its all a bit weird the way they have re-classified some things, compared to others!
definately doesn't seem to make sense/other than an excuse to charge more £.
