Hi and welcome to the forum from an E86 addict!

Photos still not showing though. Below the dialogue box there is an "Add files" tab. Click on that, select the photo then click "Open".

Welcome and Happy New Year  Is everything standard on the car ? Are you thinking about making any changes ?

Hi and welcome.
Lovely looking z.
You're not too far from where we have the Forum National meet, in the Lakes/Yorks Dales, if you fancy it. Info on the threads, in meets section for the 2022 meet

Morning Team, thanks for the warm welcome.

I have purchased this as a 2nd Car for weekend use.
Been out on a couple of road trips in the Z over the xmas holidays with the Mrs, then spent yesterday giving the car a good clean (jacked her up and pressure washed under the arches for good measure)

A bit of history on the car
I bought the car with 56k on the clock, it's had 2 owners & it came with Bmw Main Dealer history.
Brake fluid change is overdue (easy fix)
Passenger mirror is wrong glass (easy fix)
Boot Struts are tired (easy fix)
BMW Inspection 2 was missed around covid time and has not been done since
The dealer from where I bought the car performed an oil change, and installed new front & rear brake pads (which seem to drag on the fronts, and feel inconsistent), they also replaced 2 front wishbone bushings as they were an advisory at time of MOT.

The Tyres are almost new Budget Landsail jobs, which I intend to replace with some quality rubber.
I will take this opportunity to have the wheels refurbished, although they appear in reasonable condition on the faces, they are corroded on the inner edges and someone has previously painted one of the rims, so the Chrome bolts on that rim are now silver and don't look right :headbang:.
Can anyone suggest a quality refurb place for Split rims? happy to courier, or any anywhere around Yorkshire would be tops

I am looking at these tyres --- Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport 225/40 R18 & 255/35 R18 -- Is anyone running these or can suggest a good alternative for road use?

The car wanders around at motorway speeds. This could be attributed to any or all of the following
~I assume that some bushings will be past their best given the cars age
~The cars probably never had an alignment check
~The tyres are budget affairs
~The wheels could be buckled (it has worn runflats until around 52k)
I have had the car on Axel stands and had a look at the bushings whilst they appear ok they are the originals.

The Cylinder Head gasket has leaked at some point, and there is oil around the filter housing. (this could be from the dealer changing the oil) but I will have a new gasket fitted at the same time as the cylinder head.

Auto Transmission, I know, but this is my 3rd Auto BMW an I like em. This one has a whine when starting off 1st & 2nd, it settles down soon after. Is this normal for Z4 Auto boxes?

So I have a few issues to address, can any forum members suggest a good indy around Wakefield, Yorkshire that can assist me with my E86? As I haven't got a garage full of Bearing presses / Pullers

In other news, I have fixed the foglights which were full of condensation, by removing the wheels, removing the foglights from their housings, soaking in a Bucket of hot water & using a heatgun to pry apart. Then using a wire wheel brush I cleaned the housings up and sprayed them silver, I have drilled 4No 4mm holes in the bottom of the lenses before gluing them back together.

Looks right as ninepence na

Been busy then .

I cant recommend anyone personally up in Yorkshire but there is a list here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=72&t=796191 and on this site try here https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4

Fog lights - Good job but many have got rid of the fog lights as they continually "fog up" and they have replaced with blanks which you can get from BMW at a decent price .

Front end being light at speed is a known issue which can be various things including the wheels / tyre set up but as far as I know the main reason can be the ring on the steering column may need tightening/adjusting . Worth having a read of this post https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=100725 ( there is also a how to do on this ) . As you have mentioned the front bushes could probably do with changing even though they look ok . Some including myself have changed the front control arms to Meyle heavy duty items .

I have an auto but no noticeable whine . It may be worth changing the transmission fluid but would think that it should still be ok for the mileage .
This is a good site for the auto transmission issues https://www.bavlogic.com/?p=3738

Goodyear F1`s are great tyres . There are plenty of posts on tyres on the forum and a recent post asking much the same question here https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133160

Definitely get a geometry set up after decidng what to replace as that can make a huge difference . Quite a few have gone for the M3 CSL set up .

Hope that helps a bit .

Thanks for the input that's awesome, will have a nosey around the links you provided.

That'll keep me busy for a bit :) ...

Plenty done, and to do.
But will be worth it in the end.

Re the tyres, Goodyear f1 assy are good tyres, and only marginally behind the performance of Michelin pilot sports etc.
Although another tyre to look at which I rate highly, as do some others, are Vredestens Ultracs/Sessanta/Vorti's, etc.
Have found them very good wet and dry grip, and very good mileage/wear out them, on various cars I've used them on over the years, and they're usually similar price to the f1 assy, or even cheaper at times.
Worth a look.
Have fun :driving:
